Default questions on 04 v 00 dyno results

Let me start off by stating my occupation.
I am an engineer for Honda, working in the mfg. side. I am bilingual thereby have much opportunity to speak with the Japanese Engineers that work in the R&D side of Honda Motors of Japan.

I myself am very curious to find out why the dyno results indicate such a variance while the spec on the car indicates the same max HP. I am considering buying the S2000 over the TL if the results are true to that graph.

So my question is about the dyno method. The graph calls out "Flywheel power graph" which is what every auto company rates their cars at. Does this mean the dyno was directly docked to the engine? I don't know the methods of dyno'ing the car other than through the wheels. So if this is the case then the old S2K was not performing well, the max HP is close to the rated spec.

If the method was docking the output drive shafts into the power train and reading the power input through th shafts, then I would agree that the HP/Tq at the flywheel should be about 7~8% higher than the given result.

Anyway please explain to me what the method was so I can touch base with the designers.

PS. How do you increase the font size of a website, Vtec.net is illegible to me.

The power plotted was measured at the wheel hubs. Read through this thread for a complete explanation:

I am also curious. Was the ratio changed between the two cars when dyno'ing? Because the overall gearing between the '04 and pre-'04's are different because of the secondary reduction and if the same ratio was used, the numbers would be skewed, I think!?!? I know I can't use stock settings when I dyno on a dynapack because of my shorter gears and the ratio needs to be adjusted.

RyuRyu,

This is off topic, but you seem to be about the only person that may be able to help me, because I have tried very hard to no avail.

I want to purchase the "Sport Suspension" upgrade that Honda of Japan offers to Japanese market. I believe this suspension lowers the S and also gives it a sportier handling characteristics. I would like to know how much it lowers the car, how much it costs in US dollars, and also how to purchase it.

Thank you.

I think this is what you're confused about. Read the last post on this page: http://forums.s2ki.com/forums/showthread.p...25&pagenumber=3

For those with questions about the "flywheel hp" label. That's just an idiosyncracy of the Dynapack SW. The package allows us to input a transmission correction factor (TCF on the plots) to allow for tranny losses. But since we don't know what those losses are, I don't put one in. As long as the TCF is 1.0, what you're seeing is the measured hp at the hub.
