Questions
I would like to pose the following questions:
1st : What car (any car past or present) do you think the s2000 most closely resembles, not just looks but overall fit, finish, reliability, driving experience etc...
2nd : Why are there such limited options to choose from when it comes to finding a car that evokes a positive emotional response in terms of the above characteristics?

1. I have never seen anything that looked quite like the S2k. I think of it like a modern british roadster, except that it doesn't leak oil.
In modern cars, the S2k is similar to the Z3/4 or Porsche Boxter, except it's cheaper and faster.
2. Because most people have different tastes. Also this car is not very practical for most people. The average Joe needs more room, and the ability to safely drive in winter conditions. I am not saying the s2k cannot be used as a winter car, or a daily driver, but there are definatly more practical choices. Therefore auto manufacturers tend to focus on cars that will sell more.

1. To me, the S2000 reminds me of family friends 1969 Datsun 2000 roadster. They're both from Japan, they have 2.0 liter engines, are rear wheel drive, IMHO are better than the European competition and my car and theirs even have the same color combination
2. Everything I want in a car is standard on the S2000. I don't consider myself a purist, as I enjoy basic luxuries such as power windows, locks, mirrors and soft top which the S has. At the same time, I could care less about GPS navigation systems, heated seats, dual zone climate controls etc. I don't think many S2000 owners have gripes about the equipment levels of their cars. I know I don't.

These replys are great! I think that the first question is a bit easier to answer due to the fact that there have been so many purist driver cars in the past. However the second question is interesting in the fact that not only does it seem to thirst for the obvious reply of current market trends but it goes deeper in asking why we as a culture settle. I am curious to hear why you think that we allow these bland trends to continue.
