Default Quick Oil Change Question

I just did an oil and oil filter change. Filled it with the recommended amount of new oil (I measured by the cup) and presoaked the filter. I started with a 5.5 gallon jug of oil, so I know how much went in. The thing is I don't see anything on the dipstick.

Fire it up?

as far as presoaking, do you mean the lubing of the rubber gasket?

yes you do need to fire it up before checking the dip stick. most of the oil is still sitting on top part of the engine. but 5.5 gallons and presoak the filter? all you do is put some oil on oil filter rubber gasket. and 5.5 quarts.

you're going to need anywhere from 4.5- 5.5 quarts depending on how much you have left over in the engine. usually you want to fire it up for less than a minute then check oil levels again. don't put too much oil in there so you dont bust the seals. good luck

Well, I'm baffled.

I have put 5.3-.5.4 quarts (not gallons, my typo) in out of a 5.5 quart Castrol jug. That's the only oil that has gone in. The Owner's Manual says it should take 5.1 quarts.

I warmed it up to 8 bars, no warning lights. Took it for a 17 mph spin literally around the block, no warning lights, everything normal. Take it back, park it in the same spot, check the dipstick. I'll be damned if I can see any oil on the dipstick. I touch it to a Klleenex and it leaves an oil mark, but that could be off the head as I pull the stick out, right?

So. . . .
