My dad graduated from West Point, served 20 years and retired as a LT C in the Army. He now works as a GS 13 making well past 150k a year.

My older brother is a junior at Virginia Tech, is on the deans list, and is currently the number one student in the aerospace engineering program at Virginia Tech. This summer he is working for Lockheed Martin in California. He turned down an offer this summer from NASA.

Both my brother and I are Eagle Scouts. I am not as spectacular as my brother, but I am graduating in the top 22nd percentile of my class. I'm attending George Mason University next fall.

I have a job, and I pay my credit card and insurance every month in full. I payed for my S, and I just so happened to make a stupid mistake.

But hey, you're right about the parenting man. My dad sure as hell did a terrible job raising his two sons!
I don't care and you're not impressing me. You're bragging about George Mason, VT, and 22nd percentile? Seriously? How'd your driving exam go?

Regardless, that's not the point of my post. My only point is that drawing up a contract for your child about driving a car is ridiculous. But hey, it seems like the contract ended up working out really well...

Give this guy a break. He manned up to his mistake. You live and learn, if he wants to get another s2k, let it be. It's not affecting you directly in any shape or form.

Honestly, if someone had offered me an S2000 in college, I wouldn't have taken it. When you factor in impracticality/vandalism/college ego, it's possibly one of the worst cars for a college student.
I dont see at all how an S2k is a bad college car.

Im in college. Ive got one. Hell ive had 2. 3 of my buddies have S2ks. Were all in college. Ive had BMWs in college prior to my S2ks. Both 540i 6-speeds and M5s.

The S2k is economical and cheap to run and fun to drive. You dont have to drive your drunk ass friends around in it and you dont have to help people move.

How is ANY honda a bad college car?

Save as much money as you can while you're in college by buying a beater you don't care about. Worrying about your car is the last thing you need to do while you're in college. Buy the cheapest beater you can find, put the rest of your cash in the bank, then after you get your first job offer out of school, celebrate and get the car you want, and I'm sure your parents will back you on the decision then.

Win/win/win.

This is really great advice, although it may not be perceived as such at your age nor may it be what you really want to hear. I would second this and suggest getting something super cheap for $4k or less that is reliable, but that you can also just beat the shit out for the next few years without having to worry about the higher maintenance costs that come with cars like the S2000.

If you want RWD go for a Miata and put a Koni/Ground Control setup on it. Look for a 94-95 model. It obviously won't be as quick as the S2000 but the handling is way more confidence inspiring. The rear end doesn't feel like it may step out and bite you like it sometimes does in the S2000. Also, weighing nearly 600 lbs less you'll really like how it effortlessly handles in the corners.

If you want to go super cheap and save money look for an 88-91 CRX or Civic Hatchback. At 2000 lbs or less and 40+ mpg you can't go wrong. Yeah they're FWD but being so lightweight they are extremely fun to drive and will never give you issues as long as you keep up with the oil changes.

Tons of Respect for You Young Man, You Deserve another S2000, don't let one Wreck bring you down.

However you are going to get Whacked on Insurance and you should wait a few years befor you buy another one.

Totaled mine on Black Ice last December and replace her with a 92 Del Slow. My Insurance Company paid out over $50,000 over the Life of my Old Beloved 02 S with 77k on her. I only paid a little over $21,000 with 8,000 miles on her back in 04. She's Only Been UpSideDown Just Once (Black Ice).

Whacked while she was resting in her own Driveway. Just a few days after I got Her back from the Body Shop and days before another Trip to the Dragon.

Whacked in Florida Once (Wife pulled out infront of a Ford Exploder) and Trailered Home Back to my Body Man to put her back together again.

35,000+ Miles of her Life was in the Tripple Digits, always shifted at 9 grand on dry roads, 8 sets of Tires (Mostly Bridgestone SO2's) and Never Had a Problem. 3000+ Miles on the Dragon (318 Curves in 11 Miles), 2 set of tires left on the Roads in the Smokie Mountains, never a Problem I couldn't Drive My way Out Of.

Hit in Parking lots Twice, did't bother to gets pics on those two hits, and The Hit that took her Out

Lets just say the S and Black Ice don't Mix Well Together. All My Wreaks were under 30mph, boy does my old S have stories to tell. Someday I'll Post all the Adventures of My Old S, good and Bad.

I Miss My S But the Next one will stay on the track where I won't have to insure her. When my rates come down I'll find a Nice Low Mile AP1 for Summer Driving.

Again to You and when the Time is Right get yourself another S2000.
