Default Quote on a new 08 S2k

Hey guys, i've been lurking on the forums for a while and feel like I want to purchase an s2000 now. Searched on possible quotes for the new 08/09's, but I didn't come up with much. So far the dealer has quoted me 27,800 on a black/black s2000; don't think this is quite fair being as how the same dealer quoted someone else for 26,900 OTD for a yellow CR.

Now I know that haggling is part of the business in buying a car, but I just want to get a justified quote knowing that cars aren't selling, it's not the summer (vert sales wise), more competitive cars are being released at this time (370z, genesis coupe, etc.), and the fact that the 34k MSRP seems a bit unrealistic now. I've told dealers 25,000 before TTL is a reasonable start for negotiation. Has anyone had any experiences with prices close to this?

I drive an 07 350z and while it's a great car, I feel that I want something a little more exciting. A lot of 350z owners all say that the 350 is a better car, faster, has torque, looks nicer, and etc... While some of this is true, I just want a car with a timeless design and fun factor. 350z is a little boring atm and that's another reason why I want an s2000... The amount of fun I'll have over the years.

Anyways, to wrap this up. I appreciate any feedback given by the s2ki community, just looking for an ideal price that I should be able to buy the s2000 for. I think 25,000 is ok, but if it can go lower I just want to get an idea of what I should set my goals at realistically.

Thanks

1 - yellow is a less popular color, so a lower price

2 - if you know someone else got 26,900 OTD, why aren't you just asking for that?

3 - I hear about late model S2000s going for 27k all day, but 25k seems low - dealers need to at least recoup the cost of the car, so why would they sell it at a loss when they can sit on it for a while? I'd just ask for 26.9k OTD instead of fussing over $25k as a starting price.

There are 16 2008's on Ebay right now. Pick out the one you like and wait until the bidding is over. It probably won't sell because it won't meet the reserve price. Contact the dealer/seller and make them an offer. Start low - you can always go up. Have the car inspected and run a Carfax before purchase.

I bought a 2008 with 3k miles for $22500 using this method.

The eBay method is definitely nice since it may have been relisted several times already and they want it off of their lot fast. Heck you might even get them to pick you up at the airport if you're out of town and they're desperate enough to sell it.

Are you sure on the yellow cr price? Was it new or slightly used with a couple thousand miles? .that makes a big difference if it's been traded back in they may have more room on the price. Just making sure your comparing apple to apple here. Losing money on the car is only slightly better than not selling it plus they may be counting on the discontinued announcement to peak interest.

speaking strictly CR, the cheapest most recent publicized deals are:

new black CR w/ ac: $26,500 including hardtop stand, tint, and 3m bug shield bought from milwaukee

new blue CR w/ ac: $26,900 bought from ebay, friend of mine in jersey got it from a MD dealer

new blue CR without ac: $24,200 ebay car

i purchased my 07 GPW new for 26,226 in feb 08, and my black CR for 29,300. CR deal was ok, but mainly because i had a 4wd truck as trade.

if i were buying now, i would not spend more then 26k on a base, 26K on a base CR, or 27k on a CR w/ ac. i'd suggest finding the car that you want, and tell them flat out you will give them 26k (or whatever number you choose). also, if you are financing the car with them, let them know that up front, as that affects the bottom line number as well. they make $ off of your financing, so you can get a lower sale price that way. good luck.

Sounds familiar....i traded in a 2008 Infiniti G37 in december for my 2007 GPW S.
had the same emotions/feeling as you do, car is a great luxury sport cruiser but didnt put a smile on my face, was having more fun driving my Wrangler than i was the G...so anyway back in december i paid $22,799.00 for the supposedly hard to find white, with 4,000 miles on it.
Drove it this past weekend, i live in Boston so keep it garaged in the winter....boy did i have a fun sunday drive. Get the S you will enjoy it, was def. worth losing a few thousand in the deal going from the G to the S. And like the other guys on here have told you fallow the ebay listing and give the guys a call. Also since they just announced they will not be making the S anymore i dont know who has the upper hand anymore...the dealer or the buyer...
