I'm sure others are good, but I've been there and done that now. The V1, in MY opinion, is the only way to go. I've said this countless times before, and I still believe it...

It does depend on what part of the country you are in. California rarely uses radar anymore. In this state, they aren't very useful. V1 is the way to go if you do need a detector.

I was looking around for radar detectors and found this. Don't know how well it works, but it would be kind of cool to have the detector hidden in the dash.

hmm, I find that the CA CHP's still use radar plenty.

Thus far, I have been using a bell radar detector (I have had the same trusty one for 3 years now), has only once let me down once.

But, whenever this one dies, you will find a V1, on my windshield.

I have a V1 and it is SO much better than any other detector I have ever seen. It had a 97 out of 100 in the latest Car & Driver test and the second place detector had 54. Not exactly much of a contest. I don't think there's any other detector that's better. Whether it's worth the extra money, that's for you to decide. I decided that the potential cost of tickets and insurance rate hikes would pay for the V1.

Chris,
From time to time I've noticed you get your panties all in a bunch.
Relax............
I was trying to make the point that the V1 is head and shoulders above ANY other RADAR detector on the market. Almost every independent test by all the car mags have shown this.
I wasn't trying to make a religious issue out of a radar detector purchase.

I'm sorry you bought another brand of detector but until you can show me several tests where brand X beats the V1 I hold to my original assertion.

John

Just another post to say that the Valentine is the best on the market. Also, it comes with the hardware needed to mount it directly to the fuse box. Mine has never let me down.

kcopp...

I've never had a radar detector on any of my cars, but maybe I should now consider one since the smokey patrols have increased in my area lately. I was thinking of something good - like the V1. Does this thing just sit on the dash or attach to the windshield? It seems awefully big to be sitting up there. Am I right that you can't mount sensors for it at the front and rear?

As it's illegal to have detectors in California I don't feel comfortable that this expensive toy will get confiscated if I was pulled over by a regular patrol car for a non-speeding violation. After all, you can't miss it if it's sitting up there while the cop is writing you a ticket! What's your thoughts on this?

Where are you getting gunned? I travel 280 and 101 all the time. My radar detector has yet to go off. They pace you there. Even my trips down 101 to LA, I have yet to be gunned.

The last time I was gunned, was near an elementry school.
