Default Radio "CODE"

My battery died and when I changed it, the damn CODE appeared on my player. I bought it from a Private Party and he didnt have the code. I took it to honda today and they said they would chrage me $150 to get the serial code from the back of the cd player. I thought that was ridiculous. Is there any other way to get the code? I heard it's pretty hard to take the cd player out. I just dont feel like spending $150 bucks. They take advantage so bad....thanks guys

The original Honda sales person (or the previous owner) might have written down the radio code in the Owner's Manual. Have you checked that? Good luck.

Should take you about 10 minutes to pop out the radio just to look at the sticker. Not as if you have to unhook any of the wires or harnesses. There are a number of sites that show you the step-by-step process. Did it myself the first time this past weekend and it was cake.

get the serial # urself. The stock radio can be removed in about 45 seconds with a 6 mm boxed wrench and a phillips head screw driver.

This is what you do.

Take the center piece out. The piece that holds your head unit in (middle vents). It should pop right out (little clips are holding the center piece so dont worry about breaking anything). Once done you should see four screw that holds the head unit in place, unscrew that and pull the head unit out. Unplug all wire from the back. Find the serial number on top of the head unit and take the car or title to honda dealer and have them look up the code for the cd player. If you need help i can get the code for you but i need your serial number.

On the other hand, there was a post (search is great for this) that gives instructions on how to get the serial number without removing the head unit. Then you can take the serial number to any Honda dealer and they can look up the code for you, provided you can prove that you actually own the head unit with that serial number.

Good luck.

There should be a card or something that came with your car with that code on it, or there could be a sticker in your glovebox. If not just suck it up take the radio out, take the radio to the dealership, and they'll give you the code for free. That's what my dealership did for one of my work's company cars.

DONT PULL THE RADIO. Here is a trick

while the radio is off hold buttons 1 + 6 down with 1 hand. With the other hand turn the radio on. This will display the serial # on the display. Now the dealer wont have to pull it.
