81*F and sunny, though the dewpoint is still in the 70s. It's supposed to dry out tomorrow, with sunshine the rest of the week. Nice!

It cleared up here...completely. They said there was another front (surprise, surprise!) coming thru tonight, but it might come through dry (yeah right) and will be out of here by tomorrow (yeah right...again). Anyway, got a short ride in with #2. We went to bring some stuff to the county recycle place. Some motor oil and Diazonon. Does anybody remember that stuff? It has since been banned by the EPA so I figured I'd better get rid of it. But oh boy, does it work on controlling ants around the foundation of a house.

We tried to find Diazonon this past spring. Carpenter ants were getting into the house. When we asked at Home Depot they told us that the EPA made them take it off the market. I had some liquid concentrate for carpenter ant control from years ago, so I sprayed instead (I don't know whats in it, but there is no diazonon). Fortunately it worked. The new stuff that they sell in place of the Diazonon doesn't do anything. I think the ants like it.

Quik and MsPerky - I have a hat, too, but I forgot to put my scrunchie back in the car after I used it last time... so it is sitting at home where I left it.

7:20 pm and 74* ... not too bad today! I thought it would be another scorcher but it turned out to be just right.

Quik - I know what you mean about accessorizing! I actually wear a lot of blue (though I'm not sure why), so I have a blue visor from Old Navy. It also matches the car.

I was originally looking for a light blue Hello Kitty visor that looks like this...

but could only find it in pink. I would even take it in black if I could find it! ;_;

ralper - I am so sick of ants! It took me so many months for my boyfriend to get rid of the ones we had... He sprayed all around the outside, including on the bases of the fruit trees (no fruit for us this year!), and then they came inside... so we tried Grant's... We've been ant free since last month but they started coming in around March, if I remember correctly. Every time we stopped them at one place, they would come in at a different place!

E.W.A. and I used to have a house up in Woodstock, NY. It was in the mountain, in the middle of woods. You can imagine the parade of carpenter ants we had. I went to the local hardware store and bought this concentrate that I just used. I don't know whats in it but 1 tablespoon mixes with two gallons of water. Pretty powerful stuff.

I used a pump sprayer and this magic liquid once a year and never had a problem again. This stuff did what even the local exterminator couldn't. So far, its worked here too. When I'm in the garage tomorrow I'll check the name and post it.

We have asian pear trees in our yard (here in NJ). In spring we had a few hundred pears growing. By time they ripened, the squirrels got them all. I wonder if there is an anti squirrel spray?

Rob, there is a spray that will work. Get a good 12 gage with an open bore (no choke)! It will spray the shot pretty good.....not sure what would happen to the pear tree, though.

Side benefit from above remedy, fried squirrel is pretty tasty.
One of my colleagues is a hunter and he offered the same remedy to me. Problem is here is suburban New Jersey people freak out at the idea of hunting.

We now have an overpopulation of deer and bear. They roam freely. Foxes are making a comeback as are many other critters.

The hunters that I know all think the overpopulation is due to the restriction on hunting. I don't know but it sounds like it could be true.

I didn't get to have one pear this year.
