It is a pretty tough decision. The only reason I bought my S2000 as a fun only car was because my lifestyle now works for the S2000. It is just my son and me and I have no pets so it makes sense. I am almost never in a situation where more than two people need to ride with me and the trunk is big enough for whatever we need to be hauling. My daily is a 2016 Toyota Rav 4 AWD, mainly because I want something reliable especially in winter. Now that I am in my 40's I really don't feel like working on a winter beater at the worst time of the year. Plus my commute to work is 25 miles. To me, to own an S2000 means that you must also own another vehicle especially if you are in the midwest. How you want to spend it depends on your needs and ability to maintain a beater that needs upkeep.

Eh...most subies are now coming with a turbo. Turbo 4 is just the new trend for engines nowadays. I'd avoid the EJ engine (only the STi now) as a beater but the new FA platform is pretty reliable. However he wont be able to get that as a used beater so theres that lol

I think the main reason I feel like I only need one car is because the Land Rovers maintenance intervals is like nothing ive ever seen before and made me scared that that was the situation for owning two cars no matter what. Like I mentioned before, I absolutely love everything about the s2k so I dont want to sell at all. I also love the Subi advice from you guys, I used to have an STi so I'm pretty familiar with them. Also hello fellow Nebraskan! lol
Honestly you may not even need to save up that much. Just grab yourself a Civic. You know the car is going to last, you know its going to be reliable, and you know its going to be cheap to maintain. And you should be able to find a civic sedan for only a few thousand easy. If you NEED something bigger like an SUV, then yeah maybe save up a bit more.

I agree with SteveB!! If I ever live near snow, I would get a used 4Runner more miles the cheaper to get and still be super reliable. Mine had 230k when and gifted to my son. I now have a new Sienna van (need the space and go 100mph easily) but I daily my S2000 which has a lot of miles on it, I do my own repairs and will take the Sienna to work if I have to. I believe having one fairly new car and a high mileage S2000 is very reasonable, 80k-150k is no problem for a Honda.

Umm, I was taking a nap and my buddy driver got a ticket in Utah going 105mph. He said the 'trans techno music made him do it', LOL. Los Angeles to Denver and back is no joy! But better on the Sienna than a truck and trailer. I will not drive recklessly but if the speed limit is 85, I will do 95 when the condition is safe.

I have a Sienna also. They really move very well for a mini van. It's rated at 296 hp, but I think they are low balling.

Back to the OP, Get a Subaru .Sell the S2K, save your money and buy another when it right for you. You may have to wait, but you can find a nice one if you look.

And thanks for your service!!

I will heavily second this opinion. I had to sell my first S2k a year ago because it didnt make sense for me to own two sports cars. I chose to sell that instead of my BRZ. Since then every single time i saw an S2000, i kept saying "i want another one" the longing was real. Ended up selling the BRZ and buying this one. Should have just done that from the beginning.

Salt really kills these cars.

They're low and have very badly coated cast iron chassis parts.

Salt ruins any car...but it seems to really take a toll on S2000's.
