Do a search on rattle in this forum and you will find the reasons why you get that rattle. In summary, it is normal. My justification is that the Honda engineers built it into the design to mimick the sounds of the S600's chain drive.

Something is setting up a resonance in the car at 4,000RPM. Lift the hood and rev her up. Best way is to take a 1/2 to 1" aquarium hose with a funnel attached to one end. Put the funnel to your ear and have a listen, direct the other end of the hose all around....you'll find it pretty quick. The last two I have isolated for folks were related to aftermarket exhaust/header installs.

Sounds like the old TSB clutch rattle to me.

Try this, rev your car to about 5k in second. Let the car coast down to 3k. Can you here the sound most pronounced between 4k-3k?

Also, when the sound is taking place, does it go when you gently accellerate a little?

If so, you got the clutch rattle. It is the TSB.

In addition to what Sev suggests, do it with the top up.

Thanks for all of the advice. I will do some troubleshooting on my drive home. From what I have read on other posts, it does sound like the TSB, but it seemed to have enough uniqueness to warrant the question. Plus, I guess I really didn't want to admit to myself that this could be TSB issue. Drat. Thanks again.

Do keep in mind that the TSB is not guaranteed to fix it. The 01's are supposed to come from the factory with the updated clutch parts that were part of the TSB fix. If I were you I'd wait till it gets much worse (louder) and/or it breaks before doing something about it.

In the meantime, it's a feature - S600 hand me down feature.

I seem to recall a post a while back about finding loose clutch springs upon teardown which were deemed responsible for this ratlle. Could this be the culprit?

I most noticed that noise this past weekend when I was out driving with the top down. I have like 28,000 on the clutch and this sucker grabbs tight! No slippage. So just after the VA meet or before 35,000 im going to do that TSB.

Cool s2ktaxi. An undocumented feature.

I see your point Pinky/s2ktaxi, and I am in no hurry to have my car diassembled to find this gremlin. Besides, I can't even hear it when the top is down.
