Default Really Stupid problem with my car - PICS UPDATE

You guys are going to laugh at this one....

When to take my car in to get the rear tires changed, so I had one of them in the trunk, and one in the passenger seat. I used the seatbelt to secure the tire in the seat.

Well, somehow, the seatbelt has wrapped around the seat slider lever, TIGHT. The seat is in full back position, and cannot be slid forward. The inertial reel is locked, and there is little or no slack in the seatbelt.

I considered taking the seat out, but I can't slide the seat forward to access the rear seat bolts.

Any suggestions? Is there any way to unlock the inertial reel? Some sort of override?

lol, no....the tire is not there anymore, it happened after they removed to tire to install it.

All the slack found its way around the lever.

DO your upmost to work whatever slack you can get by whatever means (Letting air out good idea SIIK) up towards the reel and carefully try to release it. Maybe practice on the drivers side to get a feel for it first since you might only get one chance. After that it's take stuff apart time.

Does the belt go through the guide at the top of the seatback? If so, maybe you can gain a little slack by removing the guide (two screws).

this happened on my old miata. See if you can get to the reel for the seat belt. The Miata one was held in by a big bolt. If you remove the bolt, the whole assembly came out. Then you could tilt it backwards, so the inertia lock disengaged, thus allowing the reel to retract.

I have not tried this on the S, and do not know the configuration of the reel. if it is similar, (removing reel by a bolt), you should be able to do it.

Yeah, I have a eery feeling this could involve a lot of work.

Since the seat can't be slid forward to access the rear bolts, removing the seat is out. It might end up being taking apart the roll hoop covers to access the reel and disengaging it.

Or I could dremel thru the lever, and live with the seat not being able to slide forward until I can get it replaced.....

Damn.....

Use google...search for: s2ki.com and whatever keywords you're looking for.
