Well said. I'm glad to see there are other people on this board with that sensibility. I can respect some tasteful and subtle mods but dislike how some not only ruin their cars with them but act like a car without mods is somehow not as good, when in many cases that's false.

So someone is slammed, yeah it my look badass but unless you're replacing the entire suspension you don't handle as well.
So someone has a bunch of bolt-ons, yeah your car may sound awesome but when we're running down the highway together you don't really pull on a stock S.
So someone has 3rd party body mods, IMO they often look like trash and really cheapen the car with their lack of cohesiveness.

And when you look to buy or sell a car they're a hindrance. You never get your money back as a seller and many buyers won't touch a modded car with a 10 foot pole.
....and thats why I'm leaving my WRX stock. I agree though w/ all the marketing and hype it's very tempting just to go out and buy stuff. I was smart w/ my s. I set a budget, decided on my goals found the right people who suggested the right parts and made it happen. My next set of goals are to get it setup for the track, so again I will make a plan, set a budget, find the right people to suggest the right products, and make it happen.

Best route for track = going back to mostly stock.

not looking to do wheel to wheel, just looking to have fun on the track HPDE. Someday I may get another stock S2K to compete. For now I'm planning to be more like one of those GT2 posers that the GT3 guys make fun of

I hear ya. I've just seen too many people say they are going to build their car for track, put a buttload of cash into suspension, power-adders, race seats, big brake kits etc., then don't have money for a good set of tires, brake pads, and admission fee (the 3 things that you really need). Then when they finally do get out there, they realize all the aftermarket stuff they got isn't as reliable or is just jdm bling.

But if it's an occasional thing than the car will be a blast. Of course getting bit by the tracking bug can be as bad as getting bit by the modding bug

I can appreciate that but in the context we're talking about, it would make a lot more sense to mod the WRX because you can actually get a lot more power for your money out of that.

but it depends on what your going for. Frankly for the money if I was looking for an awd fast car I would have been better getting a used 996 tt porchse. Even w/ a WRX to get it in the 450hp range you will need to spend some pretty serious cash, and the suspension will never be like the s.

On the track front. I know the track bug will hit and will hit strong. However where I am in my life the time is just not there right now. And probably kids will be in the near future so that will give me even less time. If I can have some non competitive fun on my local track (limerock) and work on improving my own lap times/perfecting them I will be happy.

Then maybe in 20years from now I will pick up something to race within a specific class

I've been looking into possibly taking my S to the track and the research I've done tells me the best things you can do are make sure you've got high quality tires, brake pads, and the proper fluids. No other mods needed. S's like this can own things like C5 Corvettes around the track.
