Default Rear bumper repair today

well..my s was cursed with the passenger side rear bumper cover sticking out..
also.

on the showroom floor .. there was a bad flaw in the paint just over the license plate and it was under the clear coat.. we discovered it before i drove the car out of the showroom.

they told me when the honda rep came thru in a couple weeks.. he would inspect the car and approve the warrenty work.. he of course said that i backed into something and scuffed the bumper and i popped the passenger side out !!! LOL.. what a fool.. we all had digital pix of the car in the showroom ... the joke was on him..
so..
today .
they fixed it.

now.. for the interesting part..
these photos were taken with my "digital camera.. PHONE" sony v910a very cool phone.. the camera is 1.5 mpx . it takes great photos.. has a memory stick in it too..
i can pop it out and stick it in the computer.
i am lovin this thing..

the best camera for the job.. is the one you have with you..
this one rocks.. much better than any cel phone i have ever had.

this is during the repair.. they pulled the skin off and painted it off the car.

fit is much better now

here is the final product.. and i must say.. it looks great..
they washed my car.. swept it out and wiped everything down inside..
hell..
i may get more body work .. NOT.

Man, I would be nervous about losing the factory paint on a new car (even though factory paint can be crappy these days). I hope that new paint job is solid -- is it covered under the vehicle warranty?

sure... its just paint and clear coat..

i am not worried they have a great body shop.. if there is a probelem , i know they will take care of it.

i have had bumpers painted on suv's in the past.. rock dings road rash.. etc. the aftermarket paint is usually better..

hey..

it even matches !!!!

What did they do to actually "fix" it? Do you have any details about how the problem area was addressed?

sanding..

it was an imperfection in the plastic bumper.. they sanded and smoothed ..primed , used flex paint additive.. then clearcoated..
then re installed..

i was there during the install.. they were very careful.. and took their time

At a recent Atlanta meet we looked at 4 AP2's and they all had the same problem on the passenger side where the rear plastic bumper meets the sheet metal. If 4 out of 4 cars had it I'd say I was looking at a defect rate of close to 100%.

One of the cars is a 2005 that is one week old! The others were 2004 or 2005 models in which the owners said the defects became worse over time.

Shame on Honda for letting this defect out the door!

Unfortunately my car also came with the bumper improperly aligned with the sheet metal, it's an 2004. I've noticed a lot of other 04+ with the same problem and it just didn't bother me much in the beginning, but it really grows on you. I thought to myself that if it annoys me in future I should be able to just fix it myself. It's a perfect car just in about every aspect and it's really making me mad that they let the problem "slip" out of the factory on so many of the cars.

Since the post reminded me about it, would it be difficult to remove the bumper and align it myself? Any instructions floating around s2ki? Even though the car is still under warranty I would like to do it myself and not having to bring it to the dealer.

Yeah, the pass-side bumper defect is pretty much on all recent S2Ks. It looks like the bumper cover is a little bit mis-sized. They can make attempts to fix it, but it will eventually return. The only real cure will be a properly sized/molded bumper cover. As far as I know, everyone who has gotten this "fixed" has seen the problem return eventually, including me.

It's not just the recent model years, either. The slight misalignment is there on many AP1 cars as well.
