when i first moved the car this morning the rear gave a snapping crack sound that was very nerve wrecking, i wonder if i broke something?

and i've been noticing lately that a constant buzz (sounds plastic in nature) is getting louder close to the passenger door or the seatbelt. i've gone so far as to buckle up the passenger seatbelt when no one's riding with me, but the sound persists. any ideas?

mingster,

This happened to me once after I washed the car, then parked it for the night. The next morning I heard a loud crack when I pulled out. I think it was surface rust on the rotors.

Was your car wet when you parked last night?
If you parked outside, maybe the humidity caused the rotors to rust a little.

No ideas on the plastic buzz though.

Mingster, most likely the pads sticking to the rotors, happens a lot in colder climates or after storing with the brake on after a car wash.

I've had the loud cracking sound a few times. It is just the rear brakes unsticking (if this is a term) themselves caused by humidity or something, nothing to worry about

Don't know about the buzz though

Mingster: I've had that happen a few times when the brakes locked to the rotors. They were just breaking free when I reversed. Hope it's nothing more than this.

Have you checked under the car to make sure you haven't picked up some extra plastic shopping bags?

Is it better to park in gear rather than to leave on the parking brake? Once when I was parked at a ski area and the temp dropped to 20 below while we were skiing, we could not get the brake unstuck to get home. The ski area operator had a propane torch to help victims in similar straits.

On the rotor rust thing, slightly different point. Many/most brake dust sprays are somewhat corrosive/caustic. If any of this is left on any part of the disc it can greatly accelerate cosmetic rust. So rinse well!!
