what's scary is that this can all happen while you're at a complete stop. i'm severely paranoid about this happening, so i definitely make sure i have enough room in front of me to try and escape if one of these people comes at me. that means that at a full stop, i'm still watching my rear-view mirror. it's sort of a paranoia. but you may not be able to catch them all the time.

if only people would have some consideration and not jiggle around with what they're not supposed to be jiggling around with. one little diversion of concentration is all it takes to get into a bad situation. i haven't had this happen to me and i hope it never happens to me. but it happens...

good luck with your injuries and your car OP.

That is some pretty big damage. Hope everything works out and you get better. Good luck with getting everything resolved to your liking. Just keep your spirits up.

These things suck. Hopefully all is covered. You never really learn the extent of your insurance coverage until you actually need them for something.

My car was hit this past year, WHILE PARKED! His insurance ended up paying the $11K in damage but during the time I was sweating it out I doscovered that if they total it and they decided it was worth $20K (but I still owed $25K on it) then I'd be the major loser in the deal. EVEN THOUGH I WAS HIT WHILE PARKED! I thought it meant they automatically owed me a brand new car. Nope.

So I feel your pain and hope it all works out. Physical injuries like that are a whole other mess.

Woke up the next morning in agony, went to the ER to get x-rays and I've been stuffed full of vicodin ever since. Weird tingling pains in spots on the back of my head, sharp shooting pains from my shoulder to the top of my head Doctor says it's nerve damage, and there's no way to know this early whether or not the pains will go away.

Goes to show, never assume that you're totally OK after the accident just because you don't hurt yet. I'd heard that whiplash doesn't set in immediately, guess I know for sure now.
sounds like whiplash to me...if the car is totalled, I'll take those strakes off ya...

Haha to the guy that asked, yes, it was a woman.

Just spoke to the guy at the bodyshop -- it's miraculously mostly cosmetic. Frame is still straight as an arrow (because the woman that hit me made zero attempt to brake or swerve, she hit me straight on), the only functional pieces that are actually broken are the exhaust and my right rear lower control arm is cracked (why it's sitting so high in the picture).

I'm happy that the car isn't THAT bad, but very pissed that it's been hurt at all and will have diminished resale value.

Neck is still all screwed though, going to the chiropractor three times a week now.. I am debating contacting a personal injury lawyer.

Sorry to hear about your situation. My wife was "bumped" into at a stoplight by a guy in a SUV who was on his cell phone. The rear bumper was creased, so it was replaced and the paint guy did a fantastic job on the color match
Three months later, I am sitting at a stoplight and an idiot, er person, drove into the back of me. Fortunately he was almost stopped and it only scratched the paint. Once again the paint guy did his thing and all is well.
Yes, the idio--person, was talking on his cell phone. The real kicker is that he had already had another rear ender less than two hours before while talking on his cell phone. The truck was really cobbled up. The truck belonged to his girlfriend and she did not know about either wreck! Of course, he did not have any insurance, but she did.
I told my friend that my S2000 was an idiot magnet and he said, "Yes, and its been working for a long time." Wonder what he meant by that?

The insurance company of the girl who hit me just contacted me. They want to meet and offer me a cash settlement for pain & suffering. I guess I'd better get off my ass and find a lawyer.

Just so you know, you can have the insurance company pay you for the diminished value of the car. This is a one time cost to them so it's not that big of a deal.

Also, make sure you do get that lawyer. It's much cheaper for them to offer cash one time instead of paying medical bills for 20 years.

Good luck to you!
