I wouldn't assume that they don't read anything. The same questions get asked endlessly and many people replying read what they think the question is rather than the actual question. It's nothing new and nothing unique to this site.

 

It's probably the Ethanol content.

If I put <10% ethanol gas = no problem
If I put <15% ethanol gas = CEL after a quarter tank for multiple cylinder engine misfire.
As soon as I fill it with <10% the CEL disappears after 1/2 a tank

That was my experience, you results may vary

Red Stwokay (in the link above) just got sick of paying for premium and he noticed that his owner's manual says "less than 87 octane may cause problems"...so he tried 87 octane. I don't know if it's a dumb idea or a good idea, I wouldn't do it. But he did, and didn't have any problems.

 

For peace of mind get a CEL reader. I got mine at Costco for ~$35.
