Default Poll: Did removing windshield tape damage the paint?

I want to remove my tape, but want to see what the success rate has been first.

Absolutely not. It's not much stickier than electrical tape, no way it would peel the paint. The worst is the gunk it can leave behind. It has been noted on a couple of occations that the tape was removed to find crappy paint underneath but mine's perfect.

same here - the paint is OK, but the tape left behind a 'film' of adhesive on just about half the windshield frame that i'm having the HARDEST time getting off. any suggestions? and no, all the gunk away and goo-be-gone i could find didn't do the trick.

3M Tar and Guck remover (Xilene, ie. paint thinner).

It also helps before removing tape to let sit in sun then heat with hair dryer as you remove. This will loosen adhesive and most will stick to tape when removed.

I know a dealer who sells this as an option for $300 to new buyers.
He says that you just heat it up with a haridryer and it peels right off.
Never tried myself

There were some spots missing clear coat on my friend's 01 S2K. He is contemplating whether to do it on his 02 S2k. Home Depot sells this adhesive remover call "Goo Gone" ... works like magic - leave it on, and just wipe the goo off.

Has anyone done this to there MY 02? I really like the way that it looks. Just afraid of what I might find under the tape. Thanks!
