Default Removed airbox cover, so much fun!

This may be moved to under the hood but this post is mainly about how much fun I just had driving my S so I thought I'd post it here.

Guys I have to post because I just had an awesome drive in my S. It's a nice mid-60's night here in Illinois so I thought I'd take a little drive. I had been told that you can remove the intake box cover and the car would be a lot louder. Well I tried it and not only is it louder, it sounds so cool! The growl it makes is so awesome. There's a number of threads on the safety of doing this but basically it's 100% safe for fun cruises in cool weather. I did notice a little power loss (only a little), but it was totally worth it. If your S is stock I highly recommend trying this. It's super easy to do, you just pop a few clips off.

Ahhhh I just had to share.

I wouldn't want to sacrifice any loss of power as well as heat bog for a slight increase in intake volume. Just get a tried and tested intake.

really? dude, put the cover back on or get an intake...i dont understand why you would want to sacrafice power, which the S is already lacking in, for a sound...kinda poser-ish if you ask me

I see everyone is still pretty brutal on this site about having fun with your s2000. Airbox with the top of does sound cool. I put a k&n fipk on mine and I love the sound. Enjoy it!

To each their own. Personally, I love the pronounced VTEC crossover with my Injen CAI, which also yields a few HP on the butt dyno.

its not so much about not having fun with your S, i just dont understand why someone would want to intentionally lose power...that to me seems like it would make it less fun...but i also have an invidia exhaust so i never, ever hear intake noise so i guess i just dont see the point

Yeah I'm not really understanding the negativity here. Can't a guy enjoy his car around here? Maybe it's because of the low post count.

I'm not out there trying to drag race everyone so the loss in power was a non-issue. The poser comment makes no sense. I wasn't trying to impress anyone (not even you guys).

I've considered an intake but I want to keep the car stock. The sound isn't something I want all the time, but it was cool for a nighttime fun run. And it wasn't a slight increase in volume; the car sounds completely different. Also, no risk of damage to the car. I guess for you guys with mods it doesn't sound like a big deal. This is targeted at people with stock S's.

I wouldn't have even noticed the power loss if I hadn't heard about it prior. It really isn't very much. Also this costed me zero dollars.

i don't understand the negativity either. it's not like he's losing 50 hp
and at least he isn't doing something dumb to his s like adding a $10 filter from autozone

if anything you lose like 1 hp, omg that is soooo much
there's a lot worse things he can do, like go hellaflush

anyways i do the same thing on occasion cause it sounds cool, not to show off or impress anyone, it's just for myself.
for discovering the cool stock intake sound, i was stoked about it too when i first did it

It promotes heat soak in general, car doesn't run as good...so not my cup of tea. Not trying being negative...just stating the facts and my own opinion regarding the matter.
