I've done this as well, but I have my hood vented on the passenger side. With the extra ventilation, I didn't notice any power loss. At least none that I could feel.

Hwent to homedepot today and with the weather cool thought I would give this a try. I love the sound! Need to do this more. Although, at least as far as power goes, my tires didn't not chirp through any gear changes so I guess there is a good bit of power that we lose.
