Default Removing rust from rotors?

2k miles and already I've got rusty rotors. Is there a way to clean these up without damaging the rotors? I know 3m makes a non-metallic abrasive (Scotchbrite?). Would that work on the rotors?

Failing that, what are my options? Aftermarket rotors? Can anyone point me to a thread about those?

I'd say he's talking about the edges of them in which case no amount of driving or braking will fix.

Try a search of the board for this as there has been a lot of previous discussion on solutions, aftermarket rotors etc. Some good info already archived.

What does playing a viola have to do with the brake rotors? (I believe the word you're looking for is "voila." )

Anyway, I did a search and cdelena, a knowledgeable member of this forum, points out that stock rotors do rust in areas that can't be cleared by driving. The only solution apparently is a cad plate or similar treatment.

Tim s2k did a very nice job on his rotors and calipers here: https://www.s2ki.com/forums/showthread.php?...ighlight=rotors (Check out the pics.)

I'm not sure that the paint held up well though, so I suggest you PM him and ask him about it. If the paint is still in good shape, Tim has done an excellent job on getting rid of the rust.

Here is an old pic of rotors that were painted with header paint after they were used at the track for a couple of days. The top layer of paint is affected by the heat so it does not look near as good, but IMO it is still better than rust. When I pulled the rotors recently to get them turned I repainted them.

Cadmium plated rotors is the way to go. Check out these from Applied Rotor Technology (ART): http://www.appliedrotortechnology.com/

I have them on my car and no rust. They look spectacular.
