Removing Side Mirrors
Hi guys.. I ordered some ITG convex side mirrors from S2X (
) and instead of putting these over the stock lenses, I would like to replace them. I heard this possible, but do not know how to remove them. Any special way? I dont want to try prying/popping them off and snapping something. Thanks!
The glass is held in place by two hooks at the top and the layer of automotive putty on the backside of the mirror. Heat the mirror up with a hair dryer or do it when the sun has been warming it up well all day. Tilt the mirror to its highest position (looking up). Grab the lower edge of the mirror and SLOWLY, but firmly pull the bottom away from it's backing plate. Once the mirror has become detached, lift up to unhook. Scrap off and save as much of the goo and transfer it to the new mirror glass.
I have a couple of things to add. The mirrows actually sit in a plastic frame/backing that hooks at the top and snaps at the bottom. My mirrow and frame/backing came out as one unit and I had to separate the mirrow from the frame/backing once off the car. The putty holds the mirrow to the frame/backing as well as to the car. Once the mirrow and frame/backing are off the car, ensure the mirrow and frame/backing is heated so you can remove the old mirrows without breaking them and install your new mirrows. When reinstalling, the frame/backing with new mirrow, I put a little super glue gel on the bottom 2 clips to ensure the unit stays on the car.....
