so is it because of a vaccum line or because i unplug the air sensor thing and plugged it back in? The car is going to be sold in 4 days and i really dont want to hand it over with a check engine light on.

pretty sure its the vacuum lines unless u messed something else up or the plug for the air sensor is not connected correctly. go to a autozone or something and ask them to pull the code for the cel and you'll know what the prblem is.

Go to the 'Under The Hood' forum and READ the Ultimate Check Engine Light thread in the Stickies.

[QUOTE=DaveZ,Sep 23 2001, 08:15 AM] Maybe it came on because it was time for an oil change (it comes on at regular intervals).

The Check Engine light is not the same as the Maintenance Req'd light. Check Engine means something is wrong with emissions or possibly the engine.

In our early year cars, the check engine light could be triggered by a loose gas cap (now, I understand, more recent AP2s have a separate light for that). ALthough, ini that case, I think the light is supposed to go off after a sufficient number of starts once the cap is tightened.

Next time, you should go to an autozone or something and have them read the code that determines the underlying problem.

I can't get that link to the FAQ to work above.^^

I now have a check engine light. There is about 20,000 on my car. Does the CHECK ENGINE light come on at certain intervals when nothing is wrong?

CAN I reset it and be ok? The car is babied and runs great.
Check your gas cap. If it's tight, go get the code read and you can know quickly if you've got a problem.

Also, check your oil level just to be sure before doing anything.

No, the Check Engine light does not come on at any intervals. Onlyl when a problem is detectd.

CELs don't come on for no reason. At least not on the six cars I have owned so far. I could be wrong though. I would get that checked.
