Results of clutch replacement (long post)
WARNING! Long post. This is for those people who have been undecided about bringing their car in for clutch problems...
Had my clutch replaced and got the car back today. Problems with my clutch were described in a previous thread:
http://www.s2000online.com/forums/showthre...p?threadid=5070
Parts replaced:
22200-pcx-005 Clutch Disc (upgraded re:TSB00-054)
22300-pcx-005 Pressure Plate
22810-pcy-003 Bearing
Results:
- Clutch grabs quicker and MUCH stronger. It feels much easier to maintain RPM's during regular upshifts. Both the service advisor and mechanic felt the difference.
- Decelaration noise MUCH quieter. A large proportion of the noise which I thought was normal for this car is gone. It's still loud, but of a lower frequency.
Bad news:
- One of the bolts on the exhaust manifold broke and had to be drilled out.
- The car is really dirty.
Good news:
- The car is really dirty (they remembered not to wash the car
)
- The best part (if anyone is still reading): After I told the mechanic I was disappointed that there was no pressure plate upgrade, he compared both after I left and even with the same part nos. he thought they were of different heights when placed flat on a surface. He also thought the fingers were stiffer on the new one.

Thanks to s2kmtl and others who were kind enough to respond to my questions and email(s).

I just got mine back with the clutch upgrade (See "LUTE RILEY HONDA=Horrible Customer Service") and my shifter flops from side to side with no spring action. In addition, they drove the car over 50 miles and put the top down while doing it. SOB's. I din't even notice a difference in the clutch other than the line probably has air in it because clutch feel is terrible.

AP, good pictures! I wish that my dealer was as understanding about taking pictures. I could barely get them to look at my car and I never did get to speak with the mechanic.
BTW, your picture with the "crankshaft" removed ... that's actually the driveshaft.

TFota,
Actually the mechanic seemed annoyed at first, but as I hung around waiting for him to get the pieces out, we started talking and he seemed very friendly after that. He seemed genuinely excited about the difference in the pressure plates. He also said he used to work with Porsche and how difficult it was getting into their engines.
And about that crankshaft thing
, last night before I dozed off I was trying to remember which *shaft I had named the picture. Funny how things come to mind during the last moments of conciousness
. Thanks for reminding me.

Clovis,
Sorry to hear about your problems. Have you complained to the service manager? How about the GM, and after that to AHM if they don't offer an explanation to your satisfaction? 50 miles, yikes
Hope they fix it up as good as new.
Nothing seems to come easy... in my case, first they broke the bolt on the exhaust manifold, then they didn't tighten up a hose which set the engine light on twice, so I've been running around between the dealer and work
today. And they don't even offer courtesy cars. Oh well, as long as the car gets fixed w/o any problems.
Good luck.
