Rethinking the badges
I rebadged the front, leaving the rear stock. When someone asks what type of car it is, I say "Honda S2000". I was at first sceptical as you are but think that they look better than the silver thing that used to be there. I was also concerned about someone trying to pry it off with a screwdriver. Invariably there is always someone standing at the parts counter of my dealer ordering a new set and having damage assessed. But it's something you have to want to do and noone should talk you into it. If you are not sure, don't do it.
I don't profess to be an expert on.... well anything. I don't particularly like Rick's badges, but that's just my subjective opinion.
But I am still waiting for le car's reasoning behind the statement
Please explain. Seriously.
And don't forget, taste is subjective. Take your watch for example. No, seriously, take it....... away, it hurts my eyes.

"They're a pure technical and visual demonstration of how to do bad curves, on the most difficult letter in the alphabet, the S. "

Pictures, please!
Wow, all this about a letter.
I wasn't going to change the badges but did. While I like the look of the car, I don't mind changing some things as long as I think that they add to the look and are subtle. ReedZ and I looked at all of the color combos on my Silver/Red and I decided to go with the Silver/Chrome and I loved it. It doesn't shout out at you and it flows nicely with the color.
I am not ashamed that it is a Honda (I have 5).

le car,
My sincerest apologies, I have just realized you haven't had an opportunity to see a production version of any of the badges that you so fervently detest. Here are a few photos. Also, I will send you your choice of a badge for further inspection, if you wish. Simply PM me your shipping details and I will FedEx a badge to you this morning.
Regards,
James Mullins

le car,
The variation in the thickness of the S is quite deliberate. James and I debated it for days in the design stages before we decided to go ahead. On the whole, it looked much better that the designs that followed graphic design conventional wisdom.
Remember, the design is a variation on the "S" in the S2000 logo, which is somewhat clumsy and squared off. We wanted to make it a bit more graceful and give it more sophistication and flair. We looked at probably a dozen different treatments of the S before settling on this one. The road analogy is totally appropriate.
It's hard to look at any of the pictures and fully appreciate how superb they look on the car.
You also have to remember that James and I did not cook up the idea for the badges -- it originated with members of this board and was discussed and debated at length before we decided to make them. We also tried out some of the original design ideas with members of the board.
I know that I have a self-interest in the badges, so you have to take my opinion with some skepticism. But I do applaud your attempt to introduce aesthetic considerations into this discussion, given that they were so important to us when the badges were designed. I hope you understand, le car, that many of our responses have been made to "pull your chain."

they do look a bit better in real than in the 3D image on you site, Rick (time to update them maybe?), since the reflection on the silver outline is more regular, thus sharpening the shape...
I'm sorry for discussing this now, I know it would have been more usfeul to criticize while they weren't done yet, but at that time I was doing something else probably... eating frog legs, Shaving my gf's armpits? can't remember...

, I invite le car to post some finished full-color renderings of the S he would design for a badge.
