There is a 2004 convertible top for sale on this site. The top will therefore have the glass rear window in lieu of the plastic one. My plastic one is almost opaque from various detritus that lands on it during the course of the week and it does not clean up even with a host of specialty products and copious elbow grease.
The 2004 top is not cheap but Honda wants over $550 for a 2000 replacement rear window by itself. It is a personal judgement call as to what value to place on a clear window.
What I am wanting to know is whether, given that I would be changing out the entire top (armature and all), are the two units a direct swap out in terms of bolt sizes, positions, etc. I know that I will need to wire the rear window defogger but that does not bother me.
Any input would help.

Moving this to S2000 Talk...help this guy out, y'all! If no one here can help, I know someone in Mid-A has done this, but did not connect the defroster. Can't remember who, though, so try PMing Poindexter...he probably knows who did it.

MY's 02, 03, & 04 all have glass. See TSB's in Library regarding rear window fix/ options. I've brought my plastic window back to clear using McGuires vinyl window stuff. Plastic window is much larger than the glass. If you want a rear window defroster one comes with the Hard top.

I checked on replacing the plastic with glass in the same roof, but it is a no go because of the difference in window size. So the whole roof has to be replaced. It's just a matter of doing it yourself or not. I opted to keep the plastic, although it's not in the best shape, even with Meguiars.

[QUOTE=KDuke,Aug 22 2004, 06:56 PM]What I am wanting to know is whether, given that I would be changing out the entire top (armature and all), are the two units a direct swap out in terms of bolt sizes, positions, etc.

I bought the 2002 top and completed the swap. Everything works fine but the process was a very involved ordeal. Nearly as involved as described in other threads for changing the cloth portion only without the frame.
In particular, to remove the frame you need to remove the covers over the motors. There is a bolt on the top that is tucked under the plastic covers over the roll bars. None of the threads I saw spoke of how to remove the plastic roll-hoop covers so I left them in place.
Then I had to remove the motors before I could remove the top frame assembly. When I went to install the 2002 frame, I not only had to remove the motors, I had to separate the motors from the gear drive on the driver's side and put each component in sequentially because the fit is so tight.
Nonetheless, it is in and I love it. Thanks Asura for the top.
Last item, there is a plug in the vicinity of the fuel tank that I presume to be the plug for the defroster but it is a different configuration than the plug coming from the rear window. My guess is that the plug on the car is provided to service a hardtop and it has four leads to allow for defroster and possibly a second dome light. Anyone have any information on this and how to connect up the defroster on a 2000 model year?
Thanx
