* I would definity NOT recommend shifting in this manner unless you like to break things.
Double clutching the proper way will never hurt anything.
I found a great article about double-clutching that I've had bookmarked for a while now:
http://www.vtec.net/articles/view-ar...rticle_id=3249
At first it took me a few read-throughs but it's really informative if you're patient & think of what's connecting/disconnecting as per the author's "diagram".
To summarize the article, you do not *have* to double-clutch with modern transmissions because your synchros will sort everything out, just as many people in this thread have mentioned. HOWEVER, you will save your sychros some wear if you double-clutch.
Also, single-clutch rev-matching (as has been proposed a few times in this thread, if I unerstood you guys correctly) does indeed make for a smoother shift but does not give that added bit of help to your synchros (which is certainly ok - after all, the synchros are there for a reason!) that double-clutching does.
So in conclusion (please correct me if I'm wrong!), both single-clutch rev-matching and double-clutching are acceptable and safe in modern trannys.

Good lord people. if you need to be asking about this stuff, save your car from some wear drive normally. Rev matching should really be used on the track. If your doing it on the streets than your driving too damn fast while coming into a corner.

I wonder if most of these people even know what "rev matching" is and what it's for and what it truly does.
jal3lee, I would strongly suggest you ignore this whole thread. I would say 75% of what has been posted here is complete and utter CRAP! You would do far better to contact a good driving school to find out what "rev matching (both UP and DOWNshifting), double clutching, heel/toe" really is. Did you also know that you can combine some or all of these? I'm not going to even start to tell you which 25% you should believe. I'm not feeling that charitable today.
It has been absolutely excrutiating reading the information provided in this thread.
