With the recent discussion on what changes we'd like to see for 2003 (2003 Wish List), I had commented on some changes that I'd like to see on the instrument cluster/gauge package. Here's a visual representation of what I meant. I found a photo of the gauge cluster on Temple of VTEC and started with that.

Here's the original:

And here's my idea:

The second photo includes the following changes:
1) moved the "x1000r/min" label next to the "10" on the tach
2) moved all of the idiot lights to a single area
3) moved the fuel gauge to the left under the water temp gauge
4) added an oil temp gauge where the fuel gauge used to be
5) added an oil pressure gauge under the oil temp gauge
6) moved the "pictographs" for each gauge to the outside for better visibility
7) changed all bar graphs to use smaller segments for better accuracy

I also just noticed that the fuel gauge shouldn't have a red area near the "full" mark. My bad.

The oil pressure gauge should also include a red area for low pressure readings.

I would prefer LED digits instead of bars. It is about precision?

i like the idea of giving more info (oil temp and pressure gauages) to the driver ...

but do we need 10k rpm on the cluster when our engine is not suppose to rev that high?

The 10K rpm on the tach was part of the original image that I found. I'm guessing that it was from an early pre-production car or possibly the SSM? I couldn't find a more accurate (or current) picture of the gauge cluster.

True, numeric representation would be more accurate than a bar graph, however, that would require you to actually read the numbers. The bar graphs could just be glanced at to get an idea of the oil temp and pressure. I was just thinking that the bar graphs were a digital representation of standard analog gauges and I think there's enough segments in the graphs to provide the necessary accuracy.
