Rick's Countersunk Knob
So after a couple weeks waiting for US to Canadian delivery (damn customs delays), my Rick's shift knob finally arrived today. I went with a Textured Magnum (Black). Being that it is an item I am going to have my grubby hand on all the time, I went with the textured knob because I was hoping it wouldn't get prints and show wear and such like a polished knob.
First impression: I absolutely love it. Who knew a $40 part could make so much of a difference to the feeling of an already outstanding gearbox. Given, I have only driven for one day with the shifter for one day but I am already convinced that it should be one of the first upgrades anybody makes to their S, even if it's their last upgrade. I dare say that I appreciate it as much as I do my 4.77 gears because it improves the feel of driving the car, regardless of the speed you are traveling.
Rick's Service: They are awesome at responding to emails and making sure that every question gets answered. Even for a part of this little value, they took the time to correspond with me through roughly 4 emails. I look forward to the next time I have to deal with them, and though the border shipping delays took a little longer, I would buy from Rick's before I would from a local shop.
Downside: I can now feel the 1st-2nd grind. Time to try out some GM Syncromesh fluid, or maybe the new formula Honda stuff. Definitely not a fault of the product.
Just thought I'd give my impressions for folks who are thinking about cheap, useful upgrades.

nice, that is one of the upgrades i am looking into. Thanks for the review.
I was on the fence about going with a shortshifter, but after having this on I can't imagine how short the throws could possibly be with both the countersunk knob and the SS. The installation time of less than 20 seconds was a big plus as well.

shift knobs do change the feel of the car! i just got an oem titanium (traded my stock leather wrap) and i love the feeling (except when it burns my hand)
also. definitely try out the new honda mtf. my car had 34k on it and grinded 2nd and 3rd all the time. but once i changed the fluid... butter.

I have a Rick's spun titanium (I think) countersunk knob. It perfectly matches the radio door. I also had some issues with 1-2 shifts until I changed how I was shifting. I was actually pulling the stick slightly towards myself instead of straight back, problem solved. This knob is the best bang for the buck mod you can make. It really amplifies the precision experience of shifting this car. It can get a little hot though.
