Default Rick's Radar Detector Visor Mount

Greetings,

We have finally arrived at a configuration that we feel will be able to accommodate a variety of detector designs and compliment our current leather accessory catalog. The mount was designed around the old and new versions of the popular V1 design, but we have attempted to make it compatible with many of your current detector favorites. This is a 'final' prototype and minor modifications may still be necessary to meet our aesthetic concerns and compatibility requirements with other detector brands.

As always, we welcome your comments.

Regards

Reed,
Your visors look tacky. Where are your leather visor covers? Will this also work with a Passport?

Does it work with the top up? It seems angled so high that I don't see how it could possibly see out the rear window

To Tenblade20001,

Search the net for radar detector laws. I believe I have read that radar detectors are now legal in all 50 states(for non commercial vehicles), except NY is trying to pull some cutsey legislation.

Laser shifters are OK, radar jamming(which doesn't work anyway in most of the over the counter devices) probably isn't.

Your visor nount has flaws. It is not stealthy enough, and the angle unit is bad off. The front is pointing at ground, and the rear is pointing at sky. No thanks.

I want mine to do two things. Work properly(ie aimed correctly) and to be hidden from view of cops or theives so I don't have to remove it every time I park in a public spot for fear just of the $400+ detector being stolen, but the top being slashed to get at it.

I'd love to see a black ABS plastic mold that could either attach to the windshield frame/windshield by the mirror, or even sit on top of the dash. The goal of it should be to hide the unit from cops and theives but to raise it up(if on dash) and/or angle it(in both locations) so that it is level and hard mounted.

Something like this for the mold, except for the V1 unit itself, not the remote display:

Either location(dash or top of windshield frame) would allow you to run the wiring hidden into the plastic "stealth box"

Just my thoughts on something I would love to purchase should I find a place to buy one from.

I agree, this setup isn't that ideal. The detector is angled up and is as stealth as just mounting it on the top winshield with the suction cup mounting bracket that it comes with. I am currently using the stock winshield mount bracket and have it position next to the rear mirror.
