Just read the latest R&T sports car shoot out article. It's a proud day to be an S2K owner, or to be a Honda engineer who was on the S2K design team. Even if you throw out the "bump" that the S2K got with the cost advantage, placing 5th (or 6th) in that field of cars is VERY respectable. Many will still continue to look down there pointy little noses at our car because it has a Honda badge, but the proofs in the puddin, baby. By the way, a few cars were notably absent, like the TT, which probably would have placed even with the bimmer, or lower. Does anyone have a guess why? Because its AWD, or what?

 

I guess I need to pick up a copy of that. Thanks for the heads up.

Lots of apples and oranges in this group, but an fantastic showing overall. Top sports car under $35K, period.

I don't know what to make of the Lotus - it seemed to have a lot more cons than the S and it costs a lot more. I also can't see the looks of the Elise holding up. It must be bliss to drive to rate that high - has anyone driven one? How does it stack up against the S?

The new Boxter looks like the real deal. And there's never any shame in losing to the 911.

I finally saw the new corvette on the road - it really looks sharp. It has a much more compact look than the last generation without losing any of the signature lines. Still, the Vette and the Viper are hard to compare with the rest of the field. It says a lot that the S beat the Viper, though.

With a field this diverse, I would have liked to see the TT, Miata, Crossfire and Prowler and maybe even the T-Bird in the mix, if only to run up the score for the S

i saw an elise on the turnpike the other day the kid who was driving it couldn't of been more then 17 and was in the slow lane, def stood out though and looked very cramped ont the inside

i have driven the 991s, the new boxster s, the new vette, the new slk , the current viper and of course the s2000....the vette is very over rated...i liked my old c5 vette better...thenew vette has numb steering feel, very clunky shifter, and a big car feel...good for highway crusing but not as a country road sports car.......the new boxster s is a big improvement and very nice and balance to drive..quicker and more refined than the 2000s but at 2x the price....the new 911s is one of best, if not the best sports cars i have ever driven, and i have driven almost everything from 360 and550 ferraris on down...th911 is veryfast, quick, great steering, handling, great shifter, clutch, great exhaust note and worderful interior..a big improvement over the 996...best bang for buckis the s2000,hopefully my next car!!!the lotus is really a go cart and you need regular chiropracter visits to get in and out ofthe car

IMO only the Miata is a sports car in that group and no match for even the S2000. The others listed are boulevard cursers and have no place on a track. Since the Prowler and T-Bird are no longer in production there would be no point in including them.

It was a nice article; even after downloading and printing it I decided to go and buy the magazine.

The Lotus really is an Over-Styled go-cart and it's looks will not hold up over time. It would be fun to push one around the track but I'll stick with ours for one that does double duty nicely.

 

Where's the M3? Seems like a strange oversight -- certainly more qualified as a sports car than the z4
