Road & Track Jan. 2001 review!
Have you all seen this issue? They basically take a bunch of cars to Thunderhill and test them all. The theme is cars in the same family. I.E. NSX vs. S2000, Boxster S vs. Turbo, Modena vs. Maranello, M Roadster vs Z8, etc. It's a really great issue!
Thunderhill is a track I know well, having put 250+ miles on cars at that particular track, 113 of them in an S2K. On my best days I would run 2min 25secs to 2min 30secs around the track. Here are the results that Steve Millen achieved with the S2K. 2min 17.66secs. What is more surprising is that they got a 0-60 time of 4.9! Same as Sev! I've never seen that time in a magazine. The S2K beat out many cars that I thought were a bit faster.
Here's a synopsis of the results.
Car 0-60 60-0(ft) Lap-time Slalom Skidpad
M Rdstr 5.4 121 2m 17.3s 63mph .89g
Z8 4.5 122 2m 13.3s 62.3 .92g
CamaroSS 5.5 129 2m 16.5s 60.0 .87g
VetteZ06 4.6 123 2m 8.39s 67.1 1.0g
Ferr 360 4.3 110 2m 7.65s 67.4 na
Ferr 550 4.7 112 2m 9.25s 62.8 na
S2000 4.9 134 2m 17.66s 65.9 .90g
NSX 4.9 134 2m 14.15s 62.1 .92g
SLK320 6.7 129 2m 20.87s 63.6 .88g
SL500 6.2 125 2m 16.05s 60.0 .80g
BoxsterS 5.6 125 2m 17.46s 65.6 .93g
911 TT 4.0 119 2m 10.73s 67.8 .96g
Some weirdness here. The S2K matches the NSX in all but laptime and skidpad. The S2K braking numbers seem suspect. They are the worst of the bunch and same as the NSX. Also, the Porsche TT is an awesome car.
So, that's the summary. Go get your copy today for a great read!

Yeah, I just got mine today and I think it's a great issue! But I don't get what are Benz SL and SLk doing there? They should at least bring out the E55 and the CLK 55 to compete and that will be more interesting.
There has been a bit of discussion over those stats..

Hey Song, thanks for posting those numbers.
However i was never able to do a 4.9 0-60.
I am quiet sure it might be possible next summer under the right conditions. I don't see how R&D were able to do it though because they usually pull slow times ...
The best time i have managed was a 5.11 and many other 5.1s.
Thanks,
