Default Roar while coasting

Hi every one!
I just bought a 2000 S2000 today and have a question.
When I take my foot off the gas and let it coast in gear the car puts out a roar that sounds like a universal joint or transmission kind of sound. It does not make the sound under acceleration. I have never been in a S2000 untill now and am not comfortable with what I am hearing. Does any one know what is going on? Before I go back and deal with the dealer I would like to know what is going on.
I am still under warranty.
Thanks in advance

I had the same problem Bob described until the dealer took care of it under TSB 54, covered under warranty. Please take your car the the dealer ASAP. They will take care of it if your car is still under warranty. Otherwise, they need special permission from the Regional rep.

Good luck.

Thanks for the help. I would not doubt that it was a heat shield.
I will get it right down and straighten this out.

If the noise SOUNDS like a loose heat cheild and occurs when you release the accellerator and are decellerating between 4200-2500 or so, it is likely the buzzing clutch that others have described. This is covered under the TSB 054 fix. Dealer should remedy this with the clutch replacement which has a part that ends in "-055"

just to clarify for elliot...
The springs of your clutch disk are rattling. The dealer will put a new clutch disk in and the noise will disappear. All (or most) 2000 and 2001 models make the same noise. There is nothing mechanically "wrong" - it is just an annoying sound.

or search for TSB-054

Just when I thought it was safe to assume that it was the heat shield or the clutch today a local service tech said that he thinks it will be rear end related.
I will let you guys know what we find out. It is going to the dealer in the morning.
Thanks again for your input.
