Default how do i know if my car is really buzzing under decel?

Sup guys,

I have a 2001 made in Nov.2001, and I was wondering if the sound my car makes is related to TSB 54. When I decel in 3rd gear, it sounds really loud, but I doesn't sound like it rattling (i don't know...) But in all other gears, it sound normal, just 3rd is extremely annoying. Could there be a possible problem?

Plus, my car grinds from 1st to 2nd during high RPM shifts lately(only a few times, maybe it's me?), but hasn't done that ever since i got the car 6 months ago.

And lastly, sometimes it won't go to second gear, It kinda gets stuck, same with reverse(but not much). And, My car makes a clicking sound when am in reverse pushing ONLY the clutch down.

Thanks in advance.

Between 3&4k rpm, when you are decellerating, barely tap the accelerater or brake and see if the noise immediately goes away. If the buzzing sound you hear sounds like a loose heatshield rattling (like th 90-93 intergra did at 3800rpms or so) but disappears when you test the gas or brake, then thats probably the same sound that TSB 054 addresses.

I'd personally think that a MY2001 made so early (you do mean Nov 2000 not 2001 right ) could be affected, and should be covered under warranty.

I had mine fixed early but the buzz has started to come back after another 7000 miles or so. Oh well.

yu888, is right on about this one. One thing though, it's much more obvious with the top up...so put the top up and test as yu888 describes...

From what I can tell it is only a noise problem right??

Other than that the biggest reason to get done is to get a new clutch after 10 or 15 K.

Am I right??

3-4k rpm, 2nd and 3rd gear. If you don't notice it you probably don't have it.

It is only a noise problem.

I have yet to come across a 00 or 01 car that does not have the clutch rattle (more like a tinkle). It seems that the '02 or the latest TSB54 with the -055 part may not totally resolve the problem either.

My 01 (June mfg?) has this buzzing. I am hesitant to let the dealer touch it yet but will have it done prior to 36k mi. I am not a very good driver (that doesn't stop me from racing to redline tho) and don't always match revs so the clutch plate (?) seems noisy shifting at times too.

Almost 6 mos and 5k mi later, I am not as concerned as day one, and respectfully enjoy driving it. How many months till 70degrees here????

There are two types of noises I have associated with the tranny, one is the TSB-54 noise, noise on decel between 3-4K but only happens when you let up off the gas. Very noisy. Only fix is taking it to the dealer to get a new clutch disk installed.

The other is a "ringing" in the shifter. This noise happens on accel and decel and at different points in the RPM range. Mine was ringing between 5-6K, while others have reported between 4-5K and others have said it happens through the entire RPM range. While the ringing is occurring if I gently push the shifter to the right or left the ringing goes away. This problem is an easy fix. All you have to do is remove the shifter and regrease it. There is a nylon cap that covers the ball at the bottom of shifter that rattles as the grease wears down. The grease you need to use is Honda Urea Grease. It is a hi temp grease and you can pick it up at your dealer.
