But that's probably asking too much; I might give on one of those.

Please keep us informed.

Something that replaces the current hoops is best for me. Removable isn't an issue. Something you can mount a IPort camera mount to is a must.

Something along the lines that I have seen for Mustangs and SL Mercedes. It looks like it is a natural part of the interior, not a roll cage and the top folds over it.

This is as tall a bar can be and still fit under folding/unfolding top. It is definitely not 2"(SCCA) over my helmet, but all driving schools and tracks to date have let me in. The bar is substantially stronger and beefier then the hoops and was designed to mount at the factory hoop points. This was custom made and installed and therefore on the expensive side ($1,000).

Pardon me for those who have seen these pictures before.

I would be interested if the bar met all applicable SCCA Solo requirements, was powdercoated black, had harness mounting points, allowed the soft top to work properly and bolted in with minimal modifications to the interior (keeping in mind that holes would have to be drilled, some hidden sheet metal might have to be cut and some interior panels might need to be trimmed. Price should be $450, plus shipping. Extra-cost options could include alternate finishes, a padding kit and a camera mount.

I guess I'm describing a roll bar similar to the Hard Dog ones available for Miatas (and Z3s, I think).

Since my Stook is still two or three weeks away, I have a question: Has anyone checked to see if there's room for a roll bar with two inches of helmet clearance--and the top up?

Our tech has taken the covers off to take a look and says they are rather beefy looking. The problem comes from the fact that they usually aren't tall enough to meet SCCA rules when you are wearing a helmet.

So Mike,

any further thoughts on this project?

Is it possible to make something that would meet most of our desires? Can a roll bar be designed to fit under the top and still be high enough to be SCCA legal (at least for the less tall among us)?

Thanks,

Ted

It's definitely possible to build one to fit under the top. But so far it doesn't look like enough demand to make it feasible for us to build. Only about 10 positive replies, and it's a pretty safe bet that some would end up not ordering when the time came. No offense to anyone, that's just how it typically works. We would have to be looking at selling dozens of the bars to get the cost reasonable.
