I just got my car for a week and love every minute I get on the wheel. I have no complaints at all. But today, I decided to go to work on my wife's Civic, and all of a sudden I feel that shifting gears is ultra smooth in the Civic. Never felt it that way, until I spent a week and 900 miles in the Stook.
I later went to try the Stook and actually felt a big difference. Although precise, it is a little hard to shift, and sometimes, specially from 1st to 2nd, you feel a soft metallic sound (or feel). I'm not talking about the loud metallic sound produced by shifting (or at least attempting to shift) without pressing on the clutch.
I also noticed that it improves when the car is warm.
Just in case: yes, I am fully depressing the clutch; and yes, I know how to drive a stick (that's the only thing I've ever driven, except for the occasional rentals that are all automatics).

This is my first sports car so I don't know the way the clutch and transmission are supposed to be or feel. Is that normal in the Stook?

could be a few things.
1) direct link transmission and the fact that we are sitting right up over it doesn't help the noise and smoothness factors.
2) could be a 1-2 shift issue if your car is a Y2000 model.

Mine does it sometimes, but I am uncertain which reason above it is. They just finished doing my TSB055 "1-2 grind" fix, but since its been raining, I have not picked my car up yet. (yes, I actually have a trusted Honda dealer 60 miles away ...but I had them raise my car up on a rack anyways...just in case)

I drive a Civic to work daily, so I'm constantly changing between it and the S2000. The Civic has a pretty lazy gearbox in comparison, so you'll always notice a difference. When the S2000 is cold, I've always had kind of a notch between first and second. Very slight, but noticable. Goes away after the car warms up. Also, as I've added more mileage to the car it isn't as bad. I don't think there is anything wrong with your S2000.

My 2001 S2000 has that same "notchy" feel. Certainly doesn't grind like the some of the 2000s apparently did. It is clearly different from my 1998 Prelude (now for sale by the way).

I think what you are feeling is perfectly normal. We all discussed this at great length last year. It is seperate from the 1-2 grind, and was best described as "holding a pipe and touching it to a spinning grinder for .0005 seconds" I've noticed it is better once you have the gearbox up to temp. Occasionally when cold I used to "double clutch" to solve the problem. I hardly notice it any more.

Thanks guys. Made me feel relieved now. By the way, mine is a 2001 model.

Naka, I too notice a big difference between my wife's Del Sol and the S2k. Honda did not add any damping to the shift linkage. Remember, Honda wanted to make the S2k feel like a race car.

Naka,

I have the same 1-to-2 gear difficulty. I might add that changing the transmission oil more frequently would ease the problem.

Whenever I doubt my Melissa, I drive my slammer. Problem solved. No power, shift travel is about a foot, grinds every gear. Damn my S2ook is sweet.
