RSX or S2000?
The RSX-S is an awesome car. I think it is a better fit for you right now. It will get you absolutely hooked into the Honda/Acura family. You can step up to a S2000 in the future. Take it from someone that started with a 88 Integra RS, then a 94 Integra GS-R, then a 2002 RSX-S. Now a 2004 S2000, and looking to step up to a new NSX in 2008 or so. Good luck with your decision.
You state that luggage space is not a concern and that you have an opportunity to buy one - then go for the S2K! I was recently pondering the same issue - used S2000 vs. new RSX Type S. I test drove both, and the difference (and fun factor) was like night and day.
I had a CRX Si in college, and I liked NOT having to drive around groups of people all the time. That's what friends' cars are for.

You live in Ohio. There are other things to think about. Unless you want to buy snow tires, the s2000 does not drive in the snow. Hell, the car barely drives in the rain.
Plus you will have to replace tires in the s2000 every ~12k miles or so.

RSX-S for now......
graduate, get a job, pay off some debts, then splurge for the S!!
you may think your S will make the you a popular kid.....not really, how are you supposed to haul around beer and loaded friends if you can't ever find space to store a CD?

boxsterb1,
If you can comfortably afford either car, then I say to get the one you really want. In this case, it sounds like the S2000. The S2000 does fine as a daily driver and highway car. And if there's ever a time to own an impractical car, it's when you're in college. As long as you have enough room to move your essential supplies (i.e. your entire life in a backpack), then you're good to go.
Vandalism is a legitimate concern, but that holds true whether you're in a college town or not. The threat of vandalism is always there, and I wouldn't let that deter me from buying my car of choice.
If the S2000 stretches your budget, or if you need a car for driving through snow, however, then I'd vote for the RSX.

If you're getting an s @ your college, don't park it on a street...try to get campus parking and definately park it whenever you're not using it. If you don't want the attention to your s, don't get spa yellow like I did.
If you get a new rsx, I suggest you cover that as well.
