Ok, I'm not usually one to spread unsubstantiated rumours but I'm going to make an exception.

Word on the grapevine is that the 2002 S will have a larger 2.2L engine.

Can anyine confirm or deny this?

the dealer where I bought my car(in Italy)said that they will make a 2002 model and that they will make some changes;he was not able to tell me which. He was informed of this unofficially from a Honda Italia manager.
I dont know how reliable it might be.

As said before, I doubt this will happen. The S2000 is Honda's 50th anniversary car, and this would be tantamount to them saying that the 50th anniversary car needed some improvement.

Here is what I found from an article from NewCarTestDrive.com before the S2000 was released. I actually found it on the Motor Trend website.

Final Word

The S2000 is a limited-edition car that is likely to command prices higher than the expected $30,000 retail price owing to its scarcity. At most, just 6000 of them will be imported into the U.S. each year, and only for two years. While we hate to see dealer gouging, we nevertheless regard this car as an exceptional treat for sports car purists, providing the kind of driver/machine partnership that's usually found only in high performance motorcycles.

If that kind of partnership appeals to you-the car as a surgically precise extension of the driver's will-the S2000 may very well be worth a price premium. At the very least, you owe yourself a test drive.

Yes they will make a 2002 but not a left hand US model. I know, I know, the US is the largest market. Word I still get from Tochigi is limited MY'02 production......the last ship hits US shore in August '01. I know no one knows for sure but my friend is being realigned to the new NSX made in the same plant. This explains why your Italian Honda friend has info and we don't G-Man. As for the S2200......now that's a good rumor! Thanks Aus......

Well, I have my own sources, and here's the true scoop. The MY2002 will have a supercharged V8 (from the Landcruiser), a switchable dual rear-end for low end torque (will do the 1/4 in the low 4's) and high end (for a top speed of 269 MPH),a 37 speed tranny, will be single passenger, plexiglass canopy, (no more plastic rear window problems) and best of all there will only be 100 made. The sticker will be $37,365, but dealers will be marking them up to $468,000 each. Last, I hear they are all spoken for. They will be out of production after these are made.

The S2200 has been a rumor ever since Shigeru Uehara (S2000 Chief Engineer, and creator of the NSX) was asked on Japanese television about the torque specs of the 2 liter, it has been nothing more since...sad.

This will be my last post on this subject because it is ALL speculation at this point, even disinformative by Honda (and for the record Honda has never said 2 year production, it has just been inferred from the answers given at the Tokyo Motor Show in '95 about the buzz around the "little sports car that could"). The dealers get the information about production from Honda first in the form of a color chart, and yes, before the magazines. When this color char arrives, sometime in late August, I'll post the FACTS. Dealer ordering information cannot be trusted, shall I show you how many orders there are for '01 Honda Civic Si's?
