I washed my S2000 for the first time this weekend. Today, I noticed that on the inside of the rims (behind the spokes) there's a rusty ring, kinda like the ring I used to leave around the bathtub. I don't notice this on the fronts, only the rears.

The car had not been driven for 6 days and the last drive was in the rain.

I presume that this is rust from the brakes but how do I 1) get it off, and 2) not get it again?

(I apologize for the cross post but I didn't get a response on "Wash and Wax" and I really didn't think y'all were really that timid!)

The iron content in the S2000 rotors makes for excellent braking, but with the downside of rust. This will happen when you wash the car or drive it in the rain and put it away with wet rotors. One solution is to make sure that you use your brakes to warm up the rotors and evaporate the moisture before putting the car away. I have a coat of metal polish on the rims to make the rust easy to remove from the rim with plain water and a rag.

Now that's a quick response - 6 minutes!

Hmmm. How about setting up a group buy for carbon fiber rotors? That'd eliminate the rust.

Seriously, driving around enough to dry the rotors is almost impossible when it is raining as I drive INTO the garage. Probably aggravating this is that I have a puddle at the entrance to my driveway so I "splash" as I enter the driveway.

Thanks for the explanation. Now I've just got to figure out how to avoid it.

If I splashed my Stook as I pulled in or out of my driveway, I'd move.

Yeah! I get the same ring. Just wash it off on the next wash. What I really think is great is your photo!
What camera do you use? Write me at kash@ran.es if you prefer not to use the list.

It is an Epson PhotoPC 650. It was cheap, about $250. That was the primary criteria. I also chose it because 1) it uses AA batteries, not proprietary rechargeables, and 2) it uses a CompactFlash card, which requires less battery power than spinning a floppy like the Sonys (did).

I wish it had a zoom.

There're a bunch of pictures taken with this camera at http://albums.photopoint.com/j/AlbumList?u=608197.
