You don't even need a hardtop if you have a glass rear window.

For the price of a complete set of dedicated snow tires you can buy an 80's Civic or Tercel and not worry about stupid winter drivers. If they hit you who cares;and your S is safe at home in a warm garage

I think the manual advises against a car wash due to the high pressure water jets pushing water past the window seals. This is the main worry. But I've seen convertible owners go through touchless carwashes armed with a few towels for soaking up the water that gets in. As for the top going from cold to hot to cold, as long as you do it on a day above freezing, it should be able to take it.
I keep an old washcloth in the "glove" compartment just for this reason. I get some seepage but I'm ready for it.

Also, I've had no problems with the top or plastic window in cold weather going through the car wash. I've got no garage so I finally broke down and bought a hardtop for winter. The only problem I ever had with the soft top was getting wet snow off it easily as well as needing to be careful not to scratch the rear window. With the hardtop, no more issues.

People forget that this is just a car and can be enjoyed in non-optimal weather. I've driven my Preludes and our Mercedes in winter with no issues as long as the tires were up to it. I have no problem with driving it in winter. Other drivers around me, on the other hand, would do well to actually try paying attention to their driving...

I use an automated car wash for almost 2 1/2 years with my s2000. No problem with the top but your wheels will take some minor scratches over time with the automated car wash.

I use ws-50 blizzack great in winter, scary on dry roads during hard braking.

Hardtop is not a must but it does make a toasty cabin in the winter!

40 pounds of extra wieght in the trunk helps big time.

Its fun and it give you a sense of a true sports car fanatic to drive in the winter.

How many vettes do you see cruising in the winter?
