Look at the red line and the hp. 250 hp and 159 lbs/ ft of torque at 7500 rpms. Plus the car will be over 3000 lbs! With the type of torque this car has, can you imagine what the 0-60 time is with 4 people in the car with some stuff in the trunk area?

Probably not much better than the S2000 when shifted at 5500rpm. Not like outright performance is a concer in either situation though, y'know?

Although I'll admit I'm disapointed (as are quite a lot of people at www.rx8forum.com) about the rumored 3011lb weight. However, official Mazda documents currently say "TBD" for the weight statistic. 2933lbs is another rumor I've read.

....and, er, what's the S2K's 0-60 time with 4 people in the car and some stuff.....oh, wait a minute. Never mind.

They're different cars.

And don't forget that the rotary doesn't have to deal with any reciprocating motion. Everything moves in the same direction all the time.

A different car for a different market, like the Z. Ours is an out and out sports car, with no concessions to luxury and affluent buyers who want to be pampered, thank God!

It has 4% more peak power, 4% more peak torque, but weighs about 7% more (unvalidated reports of 3000 +/- a few lbs). If the curve making the internet is accurate, it has thicker mid-range torque (perhaps 15% more at 5000 rpm) that'll likely make up for the weight difference. Given the 9000 rpm redline, 6 spd, and similar engine characteristics, I expect it to be geared similarly to the S2000. Though I think both would benefit from a taller 6th. Bottom line, should have similar accel numbers to the S2000.

As to the fact that it will be slower when weighed down by 4 people plus luggage, so what? That it can carry this at all is not a disadvantage.

I would think that S2000 fans would appreciate this car as it takes the same small-displacement / high revs approach to performance.

I think it's cool. Sat in one at the LA Auto Show and it definitely grabs my interest more than any car has since the S. Sure, it's NOT an S ... but it's damn IMHO.

Red,

How'd you get to sit in it? They didn't let anybody near that X-men display car except maybe journalist prior to the opening.

I think they will make great daily-driver. It seats four, sporty, and looks good. I'll get this over Mustang GT, 350Z, G35 coupe, RSX-S and Accord coupe. (Or anything with price range between $25,000 to $35,000)

I think it's an awesome car. There was an amazing amount of space in the back seat, that is for sure. Very impressive. I wish Mazda all the success with this car.
