Default S/C'd 0-60 times in magazine, worth it?

I glanced at a compact tuner car magazine yesterday at the grocery store and they had a Comptech supplied and tweaked S2000 in it. It had the suspension mods, sway bars, and the supercharger. They posted a 0-60 time of 5.7 if I'm not mistaken. I thought we were running around 5.5 stock. Does that sound right? I've been seriously considering getting mine supercharged by comptech but for $4,900 it's not worth it if there's virtually no change in 0-60 time. I understand it helps with torque but 0-60 is 0-60. People say it's not important but for me it is if I pull beside someone at a light that wants to run. Just curious if anyone else has an opinion.

Sorry about the sketchy data but the zine was at my local Safeway and it had a bright orange supercharged Ford Focus FR600 on the cover if anyone wants to verify my curiosity.

Thanks,
Nomad

I love my SC. 0-60 isn`t everything

Also, the SC takes a bit of getting used to. I could beat their 0-60.

That's what I was hoping someone would say. I really want to do it but I'm not blowing almost 5grand for something that doesn't really work it out.

NomadS2000,

The tire and wheel setup on the Comptech S2000 sux for dragging. If you take the same car and put the stock wheel and tire...you would get better 0-60 times.

Do some searching on the forum (I'll see if I can find it too) ..

Someone posted a movie of an NA S2k racing an SC'd one. The SC'd one had like 6-7 car lengths on him when they shut down. There was no comparison.

Yep...it was running TA KD 265/35/18.
The tread width on the tire is a bit wider than our stock 225/50/16...but the TA KD is not stickier than our stock tires and the 18's definately takes away from the vertical contact patch.

Hmmmm I can't find the thread. The filename of the movie was SCvNA.mpeg . If you can find that, all of your fears will be laid to rest.

Relson,

I have drag raced 2 s2000's from stoplights multiple times.
One is stock and one is supercharged.

Around the end of 2nd gear and 3rd gear the supercharged S2000 walks away from us stock s2000's by far.

having seen the dyno chart in that same mag and heard the experiences of many on this board with supercharged cars (shaner, wesmaster, vtecvoodoo and others) i have no doubt that the SC'd stook is faster than our NA cars. I wish the mag had done a more thorough test and compared street start (rolling 5-60), 30-50, 50-70, 0-100, etc. times. The SC combined with the bigger and heavier wheels and tires seem to make the already tricky feat of properly launching the car more difficult. I am sure that once you remove that and "level the playing field" the difference in power becomes more readily apparent.

By the way, I wish the mag would do a proper test and run #'s on a stock car, add the sc and then re run the test. That's the only good way for the reader to truly quantify the difference in power and acceleration.

For what its worth, I have been contemplating an SC for my car in the future. However, I don't think I am willing to make that change until all the problems with the SC have been ironed out. Broken brackets and blow diff's and axles is more than I am willing to accept on a car that I use at times as a daily driver.

Comptech (from what I have read and heard) is a first rate outfit. I am sure they are working on the issues and will find a solution. I think I'll wait until that time.
