S02's: Poor choice for the car?
I've got nearly 15K miles on my S02's now and whether it's the cold weather or the fact that I'm nearing the end of the tread on my rears, I have yet to be "caught off guard" with my rear stepping out unprovoked. In fact I'm finding it easier than ever to coax the rear into a predictable slide around certain corners, when no other cars are nearby naturally. I certainly don't drive my car at anything even close to 10/10ths on the road, but when I do decide to push it around a curve, I'm always able to reign it back in with lifting off the throttle, ironically the exactly wrong thing to do in such a situation. Guess I do drive like my grandmother, and she's dead!
I love the S0-2's. When it's cold, they give an entertaining yet controllable slide. My feedback is what the car is doing and how it responds to my input. I don't need noisy tires to get the feel of what's happening with the weight balance of the car and grip at the corners.
Like I said, it hasn't caught me out, I'm just posting my observations as I learn how the car handles at the limit.
Thanks all to the tire suggestions. I'm going to go with 17's in the spring, and the S02's are no longer available in those sizes.

On the track, I find the S02 to be very predictable. I have easily gotten then to slide and been able to regain the car's composure without much trouble. I think the car handles great and gives a lot of feedback when you are near the limit.
With that said and based on everyone's comments, I think the real reason is the suspension setup in the 00 and 01 model years.
I have an 02 and do not share the same complaints about incidents of sudden loss of control.

I have spent some days out at the track. This past Saturday a guy driving a BMW M3 told me he heard that the S2000 can bite at the limit. I asked him what type of car does not? I'm on my 3rd set of SO2s. I believe they are exceptional when driving at the limit, tons of grip and plenty of feedback. They just don't last so long. The problem has nothing to do with the car or tires, I would suggest we examine the pilots driving skills. We are much to quick to blame the environment and the car. Rarely do we focus on what we don't know about driving.
SO3 all the way. A little better than the SO2 in everyway and even have a bit better tread life. Both tires are amazing, but the S03s seem to be much better in the rain.
Both are ice skates when cold!
