Do you think it is manufacture design flaw?

It seems like many people are experiencing similar things...
It could be a couple things wrong. If the fluid change didn't help try changing your driving habits. Adjust the seat position closer so the clutch engages. If that doesn't work it could be your clutch master cylinder. It could be leaking causing your pedal to be stiff/not engaging all the way. If you remove your CMC you'll see a 'marble' like ball and it has a tendency to have a sharp point on it. Just simply file that down and re-install and it works wonders. If those don't work it's probably your synchro's going bad. I had my 2nd and 3rd gear go out at about 34k.

90% of the time is the way you hold your shifter that cuases the grind! it happened to me when I first got my car! the other 10% is the transmission fluid!

My 2005 does the same thing, I just bought it about a month ago. I will check/adjust the fluids tomorrow and post results.

Hi guys,

Thanks for all the replies. Its always amazes me that people would be kind enough to spend their time to give me help.

I have still yet to do the tranny/cluch fluid change yet however I brought the car to an autoshop that has alot of experience with Honda cars. The owner of the place test drove my car and reassured me that the syncros were still ok and it was not grinding, but simply it had to do with the notchiness of the shifter. He told me that tranny fluid change would help with that. He did mention that the clutch, though still grabbing fine, is getting old, which may explains the fact that any error in shifting or holding the shifter may cause a grind "easier".

I will make the change in fluids and report my findings.

I will also experiment with the way I sit and hold the shifter.

Thanks for all the help.

Henry

If you do not mind, how did you change the way you hold the shift that improved the problem?

Thanks in advance,
Henry

Hi,

When you say changed the way you shift, what kind of changes did you make?

Thanks,
H

Happened to my '05 at 20k and to my '08 at 5k (beginning symptoms), both replaced under warranty by the dealer. Its on the TSB somewhere (according to the Honda tech). 2nd gear may also start to pop out as it gets worse. It feel like it took more shifting effort just to get it into 2nd without grinding. The throw also feels longer and sloppy compared to the others. Had to do with some sort of wear and tear problem with the syncro and gear set engagement.
