s2000 advice or discouragements
Yeah why don't you like Firebirds. I think they are decent cars. I am not getting your average American gas gussling V8, im just looking at the V6's. I dont think insurance will be too high, or at least, no where near an s2000.
I agree with what most people have said here as well. I am young (21) and do own an S2000, which i love, but as a very first car, woulda been pretty dangerous. I first drove a 92 accord for about 2 years and then spent about 3 years with two different 5th gen preludes. I definitely learned alot driving both of those vehicles, which i think is a necessity. Sure, i probably coulda handled the S2k alright when i was 16-17, but i'm pretty sure i woulda tried some things in it that wouldn't have been so bright. Buy something cheap for now and just get used to driving and learn how to drive a standard. Once you've got that, then move up to an S2k.
Just from experience, and being somewhat young myself, I think two fun cars would be either a 96-00 5 spd civic EX for FWD or an older miata for RWD. Both are safe and fun cars with some power and will be great to learn to drive in.
I say get the s2000... but im also 17 so wut the hell do i know. But hopefully i can get an s2000 really soon though regardless of what you guys are saying lol. but if u dont get the s2000 make sure you get a car that can get the girls man!!!!!! lol (just kidding)
You only live once and your only young for short time then. If you can pull it off get a S2000 and try to make good chioces. Live to regret the things you've done not the things you passed buy. This can get you in trouble but it's more fun than the other way around.
20 years from now on your way to get diapers at Costco in your minivan with a screaming kid and nagging wife some damn kid will scream past you in his little convertible sports car and you'll remember the one you had when you were 17.
Learn to Autox and attend the driving school most clubs hold twice a year. Getting a S on the skid pad and learning to control the car with the throttle is a blast.
Make this your only racing, dont race on the street.
Tires, Tires, Tires your gonna need to keep them new. Bald tires and a little rain has probably totalled more S2000's than everything else put together.
Learn to work on the car it will help give your respect for it and what it can and can't do.
Get a radar detector and watch out for cops cause they are gonna be looking for you.
Most importantly of all don't dive like a damn fool just because other people do.

Yea, you're only young once, but that has absolutely nothing to do with how you choose to live the rest of your life. And that's the point, it's your life, it's always your choice. Be it to get that minivan or decide to reject the stereotype and keep your S2000. BTW, which one do you think your kid is going to prefer riding in?

My advice it to go with a Miata, much more similar to an S2000 than a Firebird. Either way, learn on something that you probably won't kill yourself in. In the end though it's not the car that kills you, it's how you drive it.
Yeah, to answer that question before, the V6 has stock 200 horses. After I drive it around for a little and learn a lot about cars, and if i can handle the power, i can stick a RAM air in there and add about 50-100 horses i think?
50-100 horses from a ram air? Now I know that the V6 in the firebird is not tuned to perfection but Don't you think they would have already done something like that it it would give them a third more power than was already available. I think you need to look at your numbers some more.
I would also argue that horsepower alone will not make a car better or more fun for the track or driving through twisties (if that is what you are after, which I would assume you are since the s2000 is not a drag car in stock form) then you need handling improvements. Try taking a 600hp+ drag car through some mountain roads and you'll soon find out that horsepower is certainly not everything!

Well they didn't put the RAM air in the regular Firebirds. They put them in the Trans Ams. They made the Firebirds for the less experienced, or lower budgeters. Anyways, I just got quotes from NJM insurance and this is what came up:
1) S2000- $3000/year. (I dont know why the guy at the dealership said it would be an easy $7000 per year, he probably didnt know our insurance or was on crack)
2) 2002 Firebird-$2,4000!!!!!! (A bit high)
3) 1996 Misubishi 3000GT-$1800 (Good, but its FWD, calling back to get quotes on the VR4, wish me luck)
Thats pretty much it, ive been looking at many cars lately, and is all I want is RWD or AWD, thats it. So this is what ive narrowed it down to: (no miata's cause I dont like em)
-240SX
-Firebirds (too high insurance)
-S2000!!
jk
-Maybe a WRX?
Thanks for the help so far guys, any other cars you would like to add to the list that can get me low insurance??
