Default S2000 body. What is the best way to rust proof?

Hi,

I started rebuilding an s2000 for myself as a long term project, planning to rust proof it from the inside and underneeth

What is the best way to do it? What body materials does the s2000 use?(is the frame itself steel?)

Will start from the trunk, interior.. then will move under the car

At the moment I'm thinking:

Hydrate 80 - applied by a paint brush to the corners and areas that could rust
Etchweld- primer on top
then simple paint and laquer

those 3 for the top of the car, not too sure what to use under the car yet.

Is that a good idea? I'm planning to do everything myself, time and budget is not an issue, just want to have a nice long lasting finish.

Thanks!

if the car isn't exposed to salt then likely not a real issue...that being said...

With my summer driven s2000, whenever i'm under it, i spray a canadian product called rust check along seams, on bolts, in nooks and crannies, and in body holes. However, it needs to be reapplied annually but is a quality product. It is an oily type product. I use it on my winter driven 2000 civic which shows no rust.

You could consider cathodic protection as well- however, the debate is out on this one and the internet is rife with arguments for and against. I have a unit on my civic mentioned above.

I have used POR successfully in the past on a DIY restoration project. However, i was removing areas of factory undercoating and the galvanized panels needed cleaning down to bare metal- if your s2000 has no corrosion on the panels, i wouldn't go removing the factory protection.

I also use a spray on, rubberized undercoating product extensively. If the body is stripped down to the bare shell, you could consider rhino lining.

good luck

Thanks for the suggestions!

Basically the car is my fun project and I'm not planning to ever sell it as I have huge plans for it, so just want to do everything to the highest standard.

Decided to go with my plan, ordered the Hydrate 80, will give it a go in the trunk and hope to see some magic...

Removed the carpets, some of the original black protection has been removed as rust started appearing under it... rust all cleared and the trunk is ready for a few coats of protection :>
