S2000/BoxsterS comparision
hi
I think that the majority of S2000 owners know what you are pointing out.
Put it this way, if the Boxster S was the same price I would take it in an instant over the S2000. No joke. I like the Boxster S and I think it's a great car. Just not a great car for that kind of money.
I think what we are all worshiping besides the "Temple of VTEC" and other things is the fact that my 52,000$ Canadian car can keep up with your 89,000$ Canadian car.
If money was no object I would take the S.. actually if I could afford an S I would take a 911 Cabrio.

The S2000 is not ULEV. I know this because I live in CA and ULEV lets me drive in the commute lane in the bay area without 2 passengers. It is LEV.
The S version IS a great car but relative to the S2000? Close but nothing compares the this adrenaline pumping car. Man it is fun to drive! About a year and a half old and it has lost none of its luster!

I was about to post the EXACT same thing, Chris. Nice job...
The torque curve is relatively flat...not peaky. The uninformed among us, in this case BoxsterBoy, assumes that just because of the astronomical redline that that is where all the power is.
Ummm no...
Check it out, BBoy.
And you have a fabulous car. The Boxster is a fine automobile. You should learn to respect other cars, especially when you are visiting an S2000 board...
A little respect would be nice...or, God forbid, you should try to reverse the semi-truisms of the old porcupine/Porsche owner joke...
Hmmm...

[B]Please someone give me an answer before I pick up my S2000 this Sat. Which car is louder at highway cruising speed? I was shocked at how loud the S2000 was. I sat in the Boxster but turn down the offer for a test drive, almost affraid that I would like it better. Except for the noise, I love the S2000.

To get back to the original article- I found it somewhat inaccurate.
Audi TT more of a chick magnet than the S2000? I'm not sure thats the case.
I also thought the comments about the tires were way off. Particularly the part about them losing traction...

Based on everything I've read about the Boxster S, it would probably be a better car for me to drive than the S2000, at least in some respects. It takes less skill at its limits to tame. I'm not that skilled. Its higher torque level makes it a bit less work to drive in the city. Its added luggage capacity makes it more appealing to drive on a long, cross country trip.
However, the S2000 is a far better car for me to own. Having $33,000 tied up in a toy is less of a burden than having $55,000 tied up that way. Having the dealer 1.7 miles from home is far better than having the dealer 140 miles away. Paying Honda service rates on parts and labor is better than Porsche rates.
Here in Sheridan, Wyoming there is ONE S2000 (and one Viper and one Prowler and yes even one 1966 Shelby 427 Cobra.) There are at least half a dozen Porsches.
I couldn't be happier with any car than I am with the S2000, so I'm completely glad I chose it.
For other folks with more sophisticated tastes, I admire the Boxster S lots and I admire the $90,000 - $120,000 Porsches even more, but not for me.

I don't think BoxterBoy said anything derogatory towards the S2000 - and he did saise some very good points. In some ways he is right ... compared to the BoxterS (and even Boxter2.7) the S2000 does not have any torque. S2000 has maximum of 220nM wile the BoxterS has 310nM and even the 2.7 has 260nM. Fact is that BoxterS's minimum torque is still greater than S2000 at it's peak.
Though, like other said, the S2000 power curve is very flat and the car is very tracable even at low revs. It's tracable, but not fast there while BoxterS is. At low revs the S2000 feels like an inredibly nice 2.0l .. though, at high revs it can give the BoxterS run for it's money.
I'd be lieing if I said I wouldn't want more torque at the bottom, of course I would. I came to the S2000 expecting very bad low revs response, I was more than pleasanly surpised. The car is pretty good at low revs, and at high revs it's awesome.
