S2000/BoxsterS comparision
There's one difference between the two that is rarely mentioned. I was at the track with the Porsche club this past weekend and a guy there was running a 928 but had an S2K at home that he said he really enjoyed. He also mentioned that he rarely gets out of the Porsche dealership with a bill less than $1000 but his first service on the S2K cost $80. I think he may have been exaggerating about the $1000 but I got his point. Our car is much more reasonable to service and I put a value on that aspect of ownership. Don't you have to like take the body off the Boxster to change the oil or something like that?
Hi BoxsterBoy, I have the S2000 power/torque curve. It's very hard to find on the net (took me a while to find it a while ago), but if you still want it, send me an e-mail at david_home@bigpond.com.au and I will e-mail it to you.
I hope all of us who own either the S2000 or the Boxster realize how fortunate we are. From what I read the two cars are probably closest in terms of purpose. The S2000 may not be any faster than the Boxster S, and is not as luxurious, but I like the idea that the S2000 was designed for a single purpose - performance driving. That "edginess" is character. I think a car with character will be more interesting years down the road. Regarding the question
"which car would I take if they cost the same?" If the choice is between the Boxster 2.7 and the S2000, I would take the S2000. If the choice is between Boxster S and S2000, then I would ask how much is a convertible 911.

Hey people-
Stock vs. stock, same drivers...
Boxster S will run rings around the S2000 on the street. You don't need significantly more power to do that- but the Boxster S does have that advantage- in gobs.
At that price, it had better.
Is the Boxster S experience worth paying the premium over the S2000 if you already owned the S2000? No. I get most of the performance with the balance of speed coming from (hopefully) better driving skill (and !Parts!).
I don't putter at low rpms on the track- I take advantage of gearing and use upper rpms almost all the time- so the flatter, broader torque curve the Boxster S has is somewhat negated. The Boxster S driver will be less tired from driving (less shifting, thus less concentration needed), but that doesn't mean the experience was any better, or any worse. Just different.
Is a flatter, broader torque curve an advantage? Always, especially when the slower, less skilled driver is driving that particular car. I wish I could miss a downshift every other corner and still power out of it @1800rpms like the Boxster S guys...

I doubt this also. On a drag strip they are about even. as most magazines have shown, the S2000 produces better track times. Every AutoX I have seen myself or have done with the Porsche Club has always had the S2000's getting better times then the Boxster S's. Put all 3 of these together that you can consider very street like and it seems they are pretty evenly matched in every aspect.

GTRPower, if the running around you thing has happened to you in your S2000 by the hands of a boxster s, then may I refer you to Sev, Saini, and/or gregstevens to help you learn how to drive your car?
