S2000 or a Boxter??
My personal opinion after having driven both is that the Boxster/Boxster S is a more balanced car and seems overall more stable than the S2000, where the S2000 is more of a go-kart. Do you want to be able to steer the car with the rear wheels? Then the S2000 is the car for you. Do you want few surprises from your car and the option of stability management? Then investigate the Boxster.
One other factor to consider is if you live somewhere with roads at altitude - altitude sucks the life out of any normally aspirated engine, and the small displacement of the S2000 makes it more susceptible to this at most, such that even in VTEC you'll be wondering what happened to your engine at altitudes above 9000' or so; the larger displacement of the Boxster engines helps this as they had more displacement to start with (though either car is easily blown away at altitude by anything with a turbo.)
Both are wonderful cars, but in most cases it doesn't just come down to a $/HP ratio, the decision is much more complex than that and one that can never be resolved on a board because most of that board's occupants are, reasonably enough, partial to the vehicle the board is a home to fans of...

I drove all three before buying the S2000.
IMO:
Boxster - Too slow for what I wanted. Too expensive for being that slow.
Boxster S - NICE CAR, but not at $57,000 (would buy many others at that price new/used)
S2000 - does what the Boxster S does at $22,000 less. Liked the "raw" feeling better.
Both Boxsters are more refined (larger interior / sound system / bonnet space) and you have the Tiptronic option. These options did not appeal to me. I could see were they would appeal to the masses. These options also drive the price up. If Honda offered these types of refinements in the S2000, then the price would move up into the high $40,000
Now in the "I hate you because" argument, I agree with ScottB.
I quit, a longgggggg time ago, getting "pissed" about other people's questioning my purchasing decisions. Whether they are right, wrong, misinformed, stupid, I still enjoy my S2000. Even though it is perceived as a a "torque less", overpriced, small, no power above 6000 rpm, HONDUA, I will gladly keep driving one of the, most fun, best cars, I have driven.

Funny, I test drove 2003 Boxter just yesterday... The main reason was... well I am kind of missing ground power and also would not mind if the engine would be more quiet at 6th on the highway. To make long story short - Boxter DOES have more power from the ground and you don't have to hate the car in order to go fast.
However - when I sat back into my s2k I was reminded again what and why I got mine - it's motorcycle on 4 wheels and you live throuch every yard of your commute. THERE IS NO BETTER CAR TO RELAX AFTER A DAY SPENT IN THE OFFICE PERIOD!!!

WhiteRocket, this is Siper2. You'll notice that I deleted your previous reply.
Don't do that again.
To everyone else... I received a Report on this thread, this morning. Since my first reply here a couple days ago, things have maintained a relatively civil pace, however there's obviously a lot of unnecessary crap going on, in this thread.
I will not lock nor move it to the Dumpster. Yet. Please... I know the "vs." threads are bait for argument, but I also know you're a good bunch of people, smart enough to avoid childish banter.
So, everyone play nice. Thank you.
