Having owned a Z28, I can tell you for sure that the SS is fast. On the other hand, it drives like a smaller car encased in concrete

I am really curious to understand WHY you went and started picking on the SS guys? Personally, I hate the things -- just my opinion. But these two cars are so far from common objectives, it not even funny -- why even compare them?

I support someone else's comment -- they love their cars as much as we love ours -- no need to go and start $hit with them.

My two cents...

Honestly, they handled that MUCH better than any Honda board would have. Go on any S2000, Prelude, Civic board and do what you just did and it'd be a 200 post thread full of s*** talking.

...they've got more class than you seem to...

Hey now... dont go thrashing LS1s either

I think both clubs have strong owner loyalty... SS, Corvette, S2000. The SS and Corvette have history way back when... and a lot of backing.. its not nice to go messin with them

My buddy just bought an SS... if you do decide to get one, you HAVE to get the Bilstien sport suspension... otherwise.. the handling just doesnt cut it.

They are 2 VERY different cars... I dont think you can even begin to compare the two. If you want power and bang for the buck.. Id say go for the SS. If you want refinement and overall handling performance, Id say S2000. Although I have seen some LS1s at the autoX that still kick some S2000 but.. but you have to be a really good driver and control all that torque. With the S2000, you have to learn to carry speed as you lose the low end torque factor.

They both have very good followings... All SS owners wave at each other as our Corvette bretheren do... the people are generally nice and outgoing. And most S2K owners are the same... but there are a larger quantity of 'non-enthusiasts' with S2000s.

Also keep in mind this is the last year for the Camaro. BTWm I just LOVE the parkng brake on your cars

A guy from our local AutoX club went through the same issue about 4 months ago. He was deciding between a Camaro SS convertible and an S2000.

He ended up getting the SS.

We went to a driving school, he had about 2-3k miles on it, so fairly new. While taking a tight hairpin, he blew his power steering. He decided to do the braking exercises anyways, and he ended up boiling his brake fluid and had to leave the school half way and could not return the next day for the start of the season.

Also, if you are thinking of doing autoX, even if these cars were as nimble, the sheer size of the SS puts it at a disadvantage coming into really tight corners and cone set-ups. The same gates they have to corner, i can sometimes position myself and make it a straight and blow right through.

As for straight line perfromance, it's not as close as you think from a standing start, they can do 12.9s with an excellent driver on a perfect day, while we can do about 13.6-13.7. Thats 7-8 car lengths, a royal ass wipping.

O yea... y not a Vette now THAT is the ULTIMATE balance of luxury, power, handling and refinement

But still pretty close in the AutoX I need stickier tires.... AutoEX just burned off half his Toyos at the last autoX.... hehehe

I agree with Sev. My car too is huge compared to the S2000. The shorter wheelbase and neutral-ness of the car is amazing.

But you can make up error and time lost in the SS/LS1 a lot easier as you can hammer it out of a turn.... whereas in the S2K... you cant lose too much speed in the turns.. or when you come out of the turn... you will find yourself wwasting LOTS of time regaining that speed.

One more time guys. I DID NOT GO THERE TO BASH CAMAROS. Read the posts.

It seems you guys are giving me better responses. I was mainly looking for auto-x experiences with them etc. Thanks.
