One of the (small) reasons I didn't buy the SS is all thre drivers I know are somewhat in the "redneck" category. Something like how many of us are in the rice racer category?

I read through the post's over at the CZ board, most of the guys were cool, considering it sounded like you were trying to start sh!t. That may not have been your intent, The problem is other import owners have been crossing over to the other boards and start trash talking and making it harder for those with "good" intentions.

I would say purchase the S2K, immediately drop in the Comptech SC, get the HKS Exhaust (I'm biased on the Exhaust ) You will see the difference, Granted the torque may be low, although with the SC'er you should have enough HP to beat stock SS's.

Awwww....I'm sorry! SAilverS2K, you are right. I was a little harsh there.....and maybe I could have worded the start a little less sharply like "Well that's where we might have a slight difference of opinion there Magnetic1 - here's why...".

But, THAT'S my point, GM Customer Service is so shitty that I have SUCH a bad taste in my mouth from the way that they treated me that I speak so badly about my experiences! Yes, to a point I was a little off base, but in my own terrible experiences (which I was referring to) I was given a really rough time by GM. Magnetic1, I didn't know that you had a 'vette already. Please accept my aplogies if I offended you.

Like I said in the bottom of my original email...I still think the C5 are an awesome car. Remember, I DID buy one and the only reason I got rid of it prematurely was because of the problems. In fact, when I first got to the 'states, I was SO looking forward to owning a Corvette eventually, that I was going to buy one every 3 years for the rest of my life. Think how much $$ that is to GM over my customer lifetime! When I owned mine, I loved it to death - spent more time with it than my wife! That's why it broke my heart when it had all the problems it did.

Well GM could have recovered from the problems as I really was prepared to forgive all I'd gone through and take anoyther car, but instead, they just pissed all over me...they really didn't seem to care that 0.0001% of their customers were unhappy and did nothing to make me feel better about things.

When you spend $45,000+ you expect maybe even just a little bit of care, but GM apparently believe you are no different to a Cavalier or Metro customer. Their customer service really needs help. If I'd bought a Boxter for the same $$, I don't think I would've have been treated like an insignificant number. GM made 'me' feel like I was the one at fault here!

So, yep, IMHO the 'vette still is an awesome, great looking car, and I would still have been driving mine today if it was more reliable and better built. I know from the corvetteforum.com that a lot of people have had problems with C5's....much more than the S2000. But yes, a car's a car car! They are mechanical and things do break. Any car can have problems. In my case, I'm lucky that the balance went from a car with lots of problems to a car with no problems. I guess I wouldn't be as kind to Honda is my #4 cylinder failed on me!!!

The most important thing, redneck, ricer, homeboy - whatever, is that we are all motoring enthusiasts and that's the common ground we all share.

Cheers,

Well put.

Sime, did u try different dealers? I know all the dealers around here have dedicated Corvette people. Maybe from so many complaints from people as yourself.. they decided to shape up?

Cool Sime, I know exactly where your coming from. When my wounds were a little fressher, I'd have launched into a much worse tirade The thing that killed me was GM's inability on the dealer as well as corporate level (dealt w/both) to recognize a gold mine. I was 24 when I got my Vette and I have been getting 1 sometimes 2 cars a year. I was a $%^& bottomless pit of potential sales for GM. All they did was, to borrow a quote, "pissed all over me." So that's why no more GM for me (or family, or friends, ...).

Here is what comes to mind with the two cars:

S2000 = Refined, well built, stylish, and aggressive.

Camaro SS = Redneck with no di*k

Ok I am not going to get flamed but I had to post it

gabe

why not drive both cars and decide for yourself?

A few weekends ago I got to spend alot of time behind my bud's Z28. Unless I was on the throttle, I hated driving the thing. And that is just my opinion.

I know people that couldn't stand being behind the wheel of an S2000. And that's their opinion.

Just go in there, forget what badges are on which cars...and just DRIVE. The car that you end up being happier with is the better car.

Magnetic1, SilverS2K...thanks guys for seeing my point!

Magnetic1, I bought my 'vette from Les Stanford Chevrolet in Dearborn, MI. Those guys are absolute snake charmers, I think they all previously were 'used car' salespeople. Made promises they didn't keep, and as soon as I paid for the car, it was like they never met me before.

Their bodyshop sucked - they are the ones who had to paint my car twice. Yet, the dealership proudly proclaims the title of 'The Corvette King'. How is that? These guys are old school and will never change their ways. They are always right and the customer is always wrong.

Then, I took my car to Marty Feldman Chevrolet...looked like they'd never seen a C5 before! I left quickly!

Finally, I went to Jack Cauley in Bloomfield, MI. These guys were great and they sell a lot of 'vettes. Jack Cauley went out of their way to try and make things right by me. But they got the run around from GM too, so without the support from GM that they needed, there was little they could do to help me as time went by. But, if I had of bought another Chevy, it would have been from them, no question! Difference b/w them and Les Stanford was like night and day, and they did restore my faith in Chevrolet service. The build quality on MY particular 'vette sucked though.

Yes, I don't know how it got through quality control either. Imagine I'd taken a "museum Delivery". How pissed would I have been flying down to KY to get my car when it has immediate problems that needed fixing!

There is a great difference in standards between dealers. It just sucks when I read stuff like "GM is committed to your total satisfaction". And, when you tell them what the problem is, they go "oh, that's nice sir. We'll make a record of it"...and then the complaint/suggestion goes directly in the trash can!

Luckily, I have found a great service department with Suburban Honda in Farmington Hills, MI. Anybody local, see these guys...they're the greatest!

Peace in S2000's!!

Numbers aside, the camaro feels absolutely awful when driving. No control!
But I feel that way about 95% of american cars. In my mind, just a fast american car that feels awful in my hands.
